I recently came into possession of a p89 and immediately learned how to disassemble my weapon so I could clean it and such. I took the barrel off (pressed the ejector down, pulled out the slide stop, pulled barrel off) I put the barrel assembly back on and brought it back so I could put the stop in, but I took it all the way back. The slide is now stuck open. It will not budge. pictures to follow soon, but if you know my problem please let me know asap.

Don't have that type gun, but it looks similar to the 1911 lever.

Can't you just pull the locking lever all the way out, then the slide should be released.. Start reassembly over using owners manual as guide, as you in needs to come from below the slide, up into the slot with a certain point of the slide being pushed back to just at, or a hair before the open rear slot were the end of the locking pin goes up an into (not the pin-hole) thru the entire gun, but the slot on the left slide of the bottom of the slide itself.. Ref: *first/top pic

You can see a curved* ) scratch mark, just above, and back of, the trigger in the pic, that is where the pin goes/travels up and into the slot..(just under the letter G) bottom of slide.. Key: go slow, be patient, as to not further the scratch mark.. use manual if you have one, as you go step by step

Luck,

To my knowledge, and I couldn't find anywhere to help me with this, I cannot pull the locking lever completely out. So this route is out.

A dude on another site told me to try to wiggle the guiderod, that it might be stuck, this also has not worked... yet.

I tried to mimic your problem on mine but no luck. I assume that you didn't force anything so my guess is ether the spring is on the guide rod backwards & it sprong out to bind everything up.

This doesn't seem likely to me but unless something is brok I don't see what else could happen.

Possible, but if it had "sprong out" I wouldn't be able to pull the guiderod out and it go right back under pressure from the spring would it?

How did you remove the slide without removing the slide stop? Are we talking about the same thing? The lever used to stop the slide on the left hand side of the pistol? Whatever the case, sounds like you might have skipped a step somewhere.

No no. I followed all the steps. and I pulled out the slide stop. it does not come all the way out on a P89DC. Just far enough to allow the slide to come off.

For millertyme,
Slide stop as pictured, is as far as it comes out in a Ruger P89/P90. It doesn't come all the way out like a 1911 etc. Watch the video.

I don't think so.

I did get mine to stick by pushing the slide release into the barrel link which pushed the guide rod out a little farther then the barrel. If you have the 8 shaped barrel link then I could see it getting jammed good. You should be able to drive it back out but be sure this is the problem & don't drive it past the spring that retains the slide stop. The gap from inside my slide stop to the side of my frame is .940" on my P98DC but .952" on my P89. See if yours is out this far.

I don't think it is. It's about a tenth of an inch farther in than yours is. I only had a small tapeline which put it at 27/32 (.840)

what would I use to remedy this, If this is what it is?

I would see if I could find a caliper to measure with first. Don't trust a tape .100' is a bunch but maybe still all the way (Ijust don't know what Ruger's specs are). If it needs move then find a drift that goes inside the hole & peek it with a small hammer. The frame is only aluminum so be careful.

Ejector

Can you provide a picture looking down into the magazine well? I seem to remember having an issue with the floating extractor binding on me once in the past. It has been a long time since I hav ehad my Rugers out.

Preferably a picture down the ejection port looking towards the rear of the magazine well. That ejector needs to be manually depressed before moving hte slide to the rear of its travel.

Also, the ejector is currently up because I put it there to get a clear picture of the magazine.

another question, is it possible to pull the slide back at all if the ejector is up? It has flipped up in the past but I have always caught it before I put the slide back on.

Well,

I have tried to reproduce this issue on my two Rugers and haven't been able to get them to lock up. They both tend to bind during reassembly, but with the slide much further forward. If I was in your position, I would lightly tap on the SLIDE with a rubber, or better yet hard plastic mallet. Try from several different angles checking often to feel if you have achieved some play in the rails. You may want to try this holding the pistol at several differnt angles also or inverted upside down.
I'm not talking about beating on it, just light impacts.

Judging from your pictures, you have another 3/16 to 1/4 " left of rear travel. I would try to move it foreward though. I see nothing on the rails that could hang up in that slide position. I agree the problem is likely up at the recoil spring or guide.
No, it appears impossible to reassemble with the ejector in the raised position.

Did you take your recoil spring off the rod. I saw a guy at a match lock up his gun by putting the spring on backwards if I remember right. mark

Ok, just got it fixed tonight.

The barrel somehow got lodged to far forward. My buddy with weapon training from the military saw it and tapped the barrel against a tire, and once it was far enough in, the slide sprang forward.

Thanks for all your help guys!
