I remember back in 1974 these little pistols cost around or under $100. What are they worth today in the best condition and at that time were they considered a good little mouse gun like say of a Baretta Mod. 21 of today?
It was a very tiny beautiful little gun silver in color.

Like this one? I paid $150 for it a couple of years ago.
Actually, the Beretta 21A model is nearly as old (1979) as the 1974 Bauer (Browning Baby clone). My 21A is a better shooter than my Bauer, but the Bauer is so damned cool looking. Just ask Foxy Brown!

I have a Bauer that I paid about $150.00 for, 2-3yrs ago. It's in very nice condition. Not box new, perfect - but close.

The Bauer's were considered to be a high quality pocket gun in it's day, and were very popular with LE as a BUG. They were liscence built copies of the "Baby" Browning.

You can buy brand new ones built by PSA in Colorado, but they cost a heck of a lot more than a $100.00

Yes that's it what a beauty. I guess I remember that as a 70's gun but being a "Baby" Browning does that mean it is of an older design? (Not as good as Beretta Mod. 21) Probably single action unlike the double action Beretta Mod. 21?

WOW! The most expensive one is $7,500, then 6,500 and a few other lower. Most of them are in the $500.00+ range. Why do these cost so much? For that money I would get that .380 Micro Desert Mini which looks nice and fits my hand. I don't see the original above version with the pearl grips.

Foxy Brown isn't that Pam Grier? Those old 70's movies.

The Baby Browning was introduced by FN in 1931, the pistol is smaller than the Vest Pocket model. The Baby Browning is a total different design from the earlier Vest Pocket pistol

Been around a while was ban from import by gun control act of 1968

I paid a $115 for mine in 78 Still have it. still shoot it. and been known to carry sometimes . I used to carry it a lot in early 80's when I worked down town late at night in a office building

Because of the age and times that gun was made can you use Magsafe loads in it? Or just plain FMJ?

The only smaller guns than that Bauer would be the North American Arms Mini Revolvers in .22 LR or .22 MAG.

Why do these cost so much?

Partly because they are Made in the USA. Labor is expensive. I don't know what the Corp tax rates are like in CO, but probally expensive as well.

Partly because they are all CNC machined. Those CNC Vertical Mills, Lathes and Carbide tooling arn't cheap.

Another reason is PSA is the ONLY (licensed) mfgr of the FN Baby Browning. They actually mfgr them for FN and all export models have FN roll marks.

Yes. In 1974, Foxy Brown uses a Bauer just like the one I have. It's a hoot!
She shoots "Huggy Bear" in the ear. Later she finishes off two bad guys with single shots to the head...after quick-drawing the Bauer from her "fro". Great stuff!

The Bauer side-print is small, but it is quite thick. To me, it is easier to carry a thin Kel-Tec P32.
There have been scads of Browning Baby clones or sorta-clones made over the past 100 years. I think the Mossberg Brownie and it's clones are smaller, as perhaps is the Walther 9, IIRC. Plus, NAA isn't the only manufacturer of mini-revolvers. And any blurb about tiny guns cannot neglect mentioning the elusive WSP also.

Lists the company as having two employees and doing about $130,000 business per year. The person answering the telephone does not seem much inclined to provide information. I attempted to contact the area distributor for Texas and got no response.
They did, apparently, have a booth at the SHOT show.

Walther model 9 is smaller. Not a whole lot though.

BTW, I have a parts gun (Walther 9), it's missing a trigger and grips.

The other maker was Freedom Arms but didn't they go out of business?

There are definitely better pocket pistols in .25 ACP than the Bauer for that price.

For what price? The highest price I saw in the thread was $150, and you're not likely to find one for that if it's in really good condition, more like $250.

The Bauer isn't a really bad knockoff of the BB, but fit and finish are not as good as a BB. I have a PSP BB that is wondrously well made, as I imagine PSA's are now. These little pistols are part functional firearm, part works of art, easy to hide from government goons when they come for our guns, and worth the effort.
:)

Comparing the PSP BB to the Bauer one has to wonder if Browning had a representative look over their work, compared to most guns the work isn't too bad but compared to a PSP it's looser tolerances and rougher finish.

My PSP doesn't jam, while the Bauer has had some problems, it's working pretty good now after I found the loaded chamber indicator was jammed and I altered it so it was more free fitting.

For those who have to justify a handgun because of it's functionality in defense one might suggest casting a wider net. I buy guns for reasons that have little to do with functionality.

I picked this up way back when--I use Glaser Safety Slugs--they feed nice.
I sometimes carry as a back-up--but I don't trust to carry with round in chamber---I trust my Kel-Tec P-3AT

Can the Bauer take the power of today's higher velocity loads? Like MagSafe?

I don't know about the bauer as the only one I had would not function and I was told by a local gunsmith that it could not be made to do so-though he may have just been disinterested in trying. The baby browning functions very well with the hornady xtp load and the speer gold dot that does mid 1000s with a 35 grain bullet.

I have not shot the magsafes in a browning but did try them in a beretta jetfire. the berettas do not have extractors- relying instead on recoil to carry the case out. In the case of the mag safe, the case swelled up inside the chamber and froze in place while the recoil was sufficient to bounce the slide back where it picked up the next round and caused a double feed.

that's pretty good expansion for a .25

gallon water jugs. The speer are consistent while the hornadys sometimes look like the one on the right and other times don't expand at all.

I have never seen a .25 expand like that.
