CT Open Carry Poll

I voted and supported. Of course, they have to look at Hoffmans. Home of the biggest jerks in any gun shop in CT.

I also voted.
If you think Hoffman's has the biggest jerks, you obviously have never met Scott Moss, owner of Forest and Field in Norwalk. Xenophobic, paranoid egotistical POS.

Ahhh..... I knew someone would correct me on that.
You are 100% correct.
Forest and Field is the only place worse than Hoffman's.

I have not stepped foot in Forest and Field in over 4 years. I refuse to.
They treated me like crap, and when my father got his pistol permit, they really took him for a ride telling him that he was getting great deals. The ripped him off and misled him. Unforgivable.

I voted yes, but I never really thought Hoffman's was a bad place. They have a large selection, but the salesmen are a bit arrogant. I like Newington Gun Exchange if I'm over that way otherwise my local FFL is a great guy. Center Sports in Columbia is where I do most of my business.

Voted...To weigh in, I am iffy on Hoffman's. I'll stop in if I am in the area. It really depends on who you get. I have had good and bad experiences. I would stay away from Riverview in East Windsor though. They have terrible prices and service.

Voted, and personally, I stick with Newington Gun Exchange. The only experiences I've had with Hoffmans are that its nearly impossible to get someone to help you, maybe it's just been bad luck for me, don't know, but, either way, I'm not heading back anytime soon.

Hey guys, Is it true that you can open carry in CT?I've been here my whole life and I didn't even know that. I've been to Hoffmans and theres only one guy I deal with, don't remember his name but if he's not there I won't even bother. The rest of the guys there are jerks and good luck getting any help they just ignore you. I've been to newinton gun exchange twice and there customer service is great and believe or not they actually greet you when you walk in the door. I just bought a nice revolver from them..38 special nickel Smith n Wesson. Very happy with the service and price. Can any of you guys tell me if open carry is legal.

Voted. Overall I think Hoffman's is fine. A few of the sales people are very good. A few are really bad. However, I have never had a difficult time getting help. Maybe it's because I look like someone who actually buys stuff

There are no laws on the books forbidding OC in CT. However, as a practical matter you will get a lot of negative attention. There was a recent case in the Hartford area where a guy got his permit pulled and arrested because someone saw the bottom of his holster and called the PD. The case was obviously thrown out and IIRC the judge ruled there is no law preventing OC so the man broke no laws. I think it was in Glastonbury and the PD disposed of his firearm so he is suing the town to get restitution. On your own property you can OC all you want, but I wouldn't do it off my private property.

If you think Hoffman's is bad, I guess you've not been to Cabela's. I love going to the store, but their firearm prices are way out there and line to check anything out is silly long. Bad design of the store if you ask me.

They're the guys who do all the advertising on 92.5fm right?
I don't listen to country but I would say that would be Riverview. I do all my business at Newington Gun Exchange and Anthony's Collectibles in Windsor Locks. Both have good service and prices.

Grand Opening

Voted.
Check out the Grand Opening for a new gunshop in Meriden named Delta Arsenal.
They're great guys to deal with!
Win an AR-15 and more - don't miss it! :)

Distra- I saw a guy OCing in a coffee shop here in Cheshire about three weeks ago. He had a full sized Glock in a thigh holster over jeans. I couldn't believe nobody seemed to notice. My only thought is that it was early in the morning on a Friday so most people were probably still dead between the ears.

I've bought quite a few guns at Riverview in E. Windsor, I have gotten some incredible deals on (barely) used guns, I think the service was very good and whenever I have had any questions or small difficulties, the owner Dave and staff were helpful and took care of me.

Riverview rocks!!!hoffmans is to busy and has some snoty sales men.Newington gun exchange has good prices lots of nice used stuff but they always make me feel like they are doing me a favor showing me some guns.

+1 on what bozzman says about Newington Gun Exchange. Those guys would rather BS and munch on Chinese food than show guns, and their prices are higher than Hoffman's on a lot of items.

Interestingly, I've found Newington gun exchange to have some really friendly, and super helpful guys and their prices are comparable (within 2-3%) of Hoffmans. And they will also price-match Hoffmans if you ask.

I prefer CC myself but totally see OC as a plus for all of us who carry here in CT. I'll feel much better about my dress code and I won't worry so much about printing or if the wind blows open my cover shirt when I walk across a parking lot. I'm personally not going to OC here yet because I'm not ready to risk loosing my permit and thousand of dollars in legal fees because some citizen feels uncomfortable seeing my weapon and LEO not understanding the law. I believe it's still a gray area for CT but hopefully times are changing and we'll be able to do both.

I've bought two weapons from Riverview with no issues and find their prices fair and I will buy another one soon from them. I always know the prices of the item I want to buy before I go into any shop and consider a purchase. That's just common sense. I've shopped in Hoffmans and can do without their arrogant attitudes. They do have a nice inventory however... except in the the Khar line.

Interesting front page story in Hartford paper . Check out open carry poll . I believe it is over 80% for open carry this AM.
Hoffman's has a great inventory , Very poor customer attitude .. I've purchased over the years , some guns and things there , but I know exactly what I want and all I have to deal with is the checkout guy. Newington Gun Exchange has always been fair trading , friendly and great used gun selection. I haven't been to Riverview yet but intend to soon.

I left CT after being a lifelong resident for 49 years! I live now in rural VA, Virginia Rocks! Conceal carry permit in 2 weeks, open carry normal and never questioned.

I tried repeatedly in CT to get a carry permit, my local town discouraged them so my paperwork kept getting "lost". I feel your pain, but I voted with my feet, best move I've ever made! I shoot now in the back of my 12 acre farm any time I please. My $1239. yearly tax bill on my 8 Year old, 3000 sqft contemporary farm house, and 12 acres of pasture are also easy to take!

When on vacation a week ago, my cousin brought me to Riverview, Nice shop. I found a 1970's colt Commander Lightweight. They sold it to me for $600. shipped to my FFL in Virginia, nice people. They negotiate when asked.

I think everyone on here knows the prices before they go in. I was looking for a Kahr CW9 at Hoffmans and they told me they didn't have it. They said they had the smaller PM9 and then promptly handed me a P9. I think some of their salespeople know about everything and some only know about Glocks, Rugers, Smiths and Sigs.

On the Riverview note, I have been there a bunch of times. I was ignored twice, charged over the listed price on ammo twice and once told $18.00 was only a 10% markup on American Eagle 9mm I had just bought for $10.50 elsewhere. I looked at a few guns but at the time they wouldn't budge from $550+ on a Glock 17.

I don't and won't open carry....but no one(permit holder) should be told they can't open carry.
