My Speer reloading manual shows a really hot load for a 90 gr. bullet is going to max out at about 1050 fps (3.8" barrel). I'm wonder'n if anybody has clocked any commercial loads at that speed or faster.

Hey, thanks for the link. Theres a lot of information to digest there. I see the hottest round has a core/jacket separation rate of 44%!! What I'm puzzled about is the extremely shallow penetration all across the board. He was using " and I'm wondering if he meant to use ' instead (inches vs feet). I'll spend more time going over it later today. Interesting to say the least.

he was measuring how far it penetrated into the LAST layer. ;)

Yeah, I finally caught that after spending more time studying the test. All in all it leaves me a bit underwhelmed with the .380 ACP. My Speer manual shows a 38 spec. +P launches a 135 gr. JHP at 1065 fps from a 6" barrel. I can't imagine it'd loose a BUNCH of velocity frome a 4". For my money that beats the snot out of a .380 Auto. If you jump to a .357 mag. that same 135 gr. JHP screams out at almost 1400 fps, I can't think of a happier thing to occur when faced with a violent perp (except for said perp to lay down in a hurry!).
