Here's my results from a few weeks ago. All ammo from Wal-mart. Temp 80 degress, 700 feet above sea level. Velocities measured 10' from the end of the barrel (not at the muzzle as often advertised).

Ruger Mark II with 5.5" bull barrel.
Brand, "Advertised velocity", Measured velocity
Federal Lightning 40gr Solid, "1240fps", 1081 fps
Winchester 555 36gr PHP "1280fps", 1076 fps
Remington Golden Bullet HP "1280", 962 fps
CCI Stinger PHP 32gr "1640fps, 1329 fps
Winchester Super X 37gr PHP "1280fps", 1099 fps
CCI CB Long Rifle 29 "710fps", 587 fps

Same ammo out of a Marlin 25N Bolt action rifle.
Brand, "Advertised velocity", Measured velocity
Federal Lightning 40gr Solid, "1240fps", 1236 fps
Winchester 555 36gr PHP "1280fps", 1256 fps
Remington Golden Bullet HP "1280", 1126 fps
CCI Stinger PHP 32gr "1640fps, 1553 fps
Winchester Super X 37gr PHP "1280fps", 1292 fps
CCI CB Long Rifle 29 "710fps", 701 fps

You can always go and look up advertised velocity for ammo on midwayusa.com

Aguila Super Maximum .22LR advertises 1750fps and I usually get atleast that from a 10/22. The 30gr HP will vaporize a full can of soda into tiny pieces of aluminum confetti. IME they are not the most accurate loads though.

If I'm reading this correctly there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the pistol and rifle like there should be.

What about the solid point is it just as devistating? I think it's advertised at 1,700 fps? Which ones does the most damage?

Aguila may be owned (?) by Remington but thats the first I ever heard anyone accuse them of making Aguila ammo.

Don't confuse yourself in thinking that amongst most 22LR ammo there's a humongous difference between HP and RN ammo. Although the small HP in many will indeed help expansion some, they're certainly not true jacketed bullets and/or preprogrammed expanders - so end of the day they don't make a "huge" difference in transferred energy like SP vs FMJ ammo in higher energy calibers.

For a 22LR, velocity is going to be king energy wise regardless of shape, and that's true on the terminal end too. Aside from the segmented/etc bullets they make (quikshok?) for 22LR.

I shoot in my various 22's whatever shape/brand shoots best, because if "whatever" 22 won't kill it I might as well break out the Hornet (or 225) anyhow.

These maybe the fastest but I found the accuracy was lacking, CCI Stingers are the best I've tried in hyper velocity 22lr.

Never tried the solids, only the hp's.

Aguila is made by Remington.

Owned, but not Made by. Not even close.

I guess 22's don't really have that much powder (as compared to a centerfire cartride like 223) and can't take full advantage of a long barrel (22") to increase velocity??

A shorter barrel may even be better with 22 rimfire.. I can vouch that the Marlin 25N is a tackdriver with a Simmons 3-9x32mm scope. I sighted it in at 50 yards and can usually keep a 5 shot group inside a quarter. It really likes the Federal 40gr Solid Points and the Winchester Super X 37gr HP.

CCI makes Qwik Shok I remember these back in the 90's in a red box with multiple projecticles.
I notice now that CCI make a Stinger called a segmented hollow point that is suppose to break up into 3 pieces? The box is the same as the old .22 LR Stinger box and says "1,640 fps" on it
Now is this segmented hollow point the same thing as the Qwik Shok of before just packaged and marketed different?
Also where does it make a difference between a CCI Qwik Shok hp vs. a CCI hp bullet?
I believe they are the same weight in grains.
Of late I haven't been able to find the regular .22 LR Stingers in hp.

Is the CCI Maxi V-mag the highest velocity .22 magnum available now?

The standard weight for the .22 LR is 40 grains.
For the .223 it is .55 grains. .223 is like a super .22 LR. with different powder charge.
