Ah, The Beauty of Pocket Guns

I think I'm officially a convert . . . to pocket pistols, that is. I used to get wrapped up in capacity, velocity, and penetration into ballistic gelatin, but now I'm happy and care-free. These days I carry a Sig P238, which just tickles my fancy. Yes, it shoots the .380 round, which according to some could not stop a newborn kitten, but I'm pretty happy with it . . . I shoot it more accurately than the larger pistols I own, it's darned pretty, and it slips in the front pocket of any pair of pants or shorts that I own.

I'm not saying that I'll never again strap on one of my more robust pistols, but given my routines and lifestyle, having a pocket pistol makes my life a lot easier. Has anyone else experienced such a transmogrification?

Like yourself I quickly migrated down to pocket pistols.
I never could find the love folks have for full sized guns like 1911's.
Now I think a Glock 26, Beretta 9000 or Bersa 380 is the perfect size pistol.

On the other hand I do not like the new tiny 380's like the LCP , 380 keltec's or TCP knowing they are too small for my hand to hold comfortably.
To each his own I guess.

I've been carrying the Colt Mustang Pocketlite for 15 years. If I had to buy a replacement, it would be the Sig P238.

I've got a Kel Tec P11 (9x19), a Taurus M85SSUL, and a new to me Polish Radom P64 in 9x18. They're all I carry in the warm months. My back up is an NAA mini revolver in a holster/grip because it's so easy to carry. In addition to its back up roll, it's carried weak side which could be handy if I'm struggling and my right hand is tied up doing something. Yeah, it's just a .22, but it beats a knife since I'm no knife fighter.

There's only a few months in winter in south Texas, or what passes for winter, when I can wear any sort of cover garment for a belt gun. So, pocket is the way I go.

So, I'm not the only one! I got a Kel Tec PF-9 recently. Fun little thing. So easy to carry and still fun to shoot. When I switched back to my P-95 at the range, it felt like a .22 though.

Of course, now I am pondering a P-32 or even a tiny .22 just for kicks.

A purpose for every one of 'em

...as long as they're reliable, that is.

It's a heck of a lot better to be carrying a "pocket protector" than nothing at all. A lot of times, one cannot carry anything larger and still be considered concealed.

I use one of David Bullard's pocket holsters. I also bought a tuckable IWB from Bullard, but have only used it a couple of times. He makes great holsters at very reasonable prices, and has thus far shipped within a couple of days of receiving my orders.

The same conversion, with the same gun, exactly as you describe. Couldn't have put it better, myself.

It's a respectable compromise between the ease of carrying absolutely nothing, combined with the defensive power of at least carrying something...

Kel-Tec PF-9 here, too. Came on duty to supplement my Bersa Thunder, which I love to shoot and have the utmost confidence it, and ended up all but replacing it. I usually don't pocket-carry it, though; it rides in an IWB holster which rides outside the waistband, but inside the belt (too much "me" in the pants to fit the gun/holster combo in there!)

S&W 442, Walther PPK & soon to be Feg SMC in 380 & Taurus PT 22, all my pocket guns. Also known to throw my Maks in my cargos along with larger 9mm's.( CZ 75 compact & S&W 6906). Would like to find the small Kahr PM9 in black for a nice price.

LCP with a Pachy grip, loaded with Speer Gold Dot is my always carry (in warm weather). While I know I should carry something with a "4X" caliber, I know I'll always drop the LCP in my pocket, can't say that for the larger platforms. I practice enough to know I can place 6 in high center mass at 7-10 yards - good enough for me. During winter I switch to either a Sig 239 in 40SW or XD SC in 40SW.

Not much of a Pocket Gun person, but on occasion I will carry my PM9. Needs fairly big pockets, cargo shorts work great. Spare mag on the belt in a Gerber multi-tool pouch.

Has anyone had experience with the fairly new Diamondback .380. It is basically built by Keltec engineers. Just wondering about reliability and accuracy compared to the LCP and P3AT

Have one and I love it but the forum posts seem to indicate problems are inevitable. However, these things are fine shooters for the price. Check out DiamondbackTalk.com for more info.

I too am a huge fan of pocket guns, though I prefer the J frame to the .380 offerings. It takes a little more work when shopping for pants but nothing too difficult.

A pocket gun takes me from carrying 75% of the time to 100% of the time (except for work where it is not permitted).

Not to mention its a easy backup for when I carry my belt gun

I carry either my

PM9 or P380 in my pocket constantly and am comfortable with either. Lately, as summer approaces here in FL, I have bee carrying the P380 because of size and weight. That said, I also keep my Glock G30SF close by in my truck. While I like larger pistols I find them impractical to carry in the heat and humidity in FL.
