I've been wanting to get a pistol suppressors for a while now and am finally getting ready to seriously start shopping for one. I'm currently really liking the Walther P99/P99 compact in 9mm as a host pistol,as well as a colt M1991 1911 pistol I already own. I don't yet own a P99 but plan to shortly but I've heard/read that the 45ACP makes a better choice for use with a suppressor as it is a subsonic round and hence quieter than a 9mm when suppressed.

Now I realize that its not gonna sound like in the movies but is a suppressed pistol in 45acp a lot more quite than a 9mm one? Also what is a quality 9mm or 45acp suppressor,I don't want to go cheap but I want what best for the money my budget is $500-650 for a suppressor as I'll also need a threaded replacement barrel and the $200 NFA tax.

I know next to nothing about suppressors so please forgive all the technical questions. Also am I eligible to own one an NFA item? I ask as i was arrested for two class 3 felonies last year, however the stat did not file any criminal charges against me and my arrest record is the process of being expunged.

since my legal issues have been cleared up I've had my carry permit returned to me and have purchased three guns from my friend who is an FFL and have had no issues with the back ground check. So basically is and NFA item simply like any other gun is regards to being eligible to own/process it? Does anyone here know of a class # dealer in the south west Florida area? Thanks so much for any help on this guys.

If you can own a firearm legally, I would say you are eligible.

Also from my armchair command center I would have to say that .45 ACP works best because of its subsonic nature. Silencerco makes a good .45 ACP or 9mm Silencer called the Osprey.

Hi Megatron. I'm in Melbourne, where are you?

A can for a 45 has incredibly quiet results if you run one wet using wire pulling gel. You can also get subsonic 9mm ammo. I've got about 1000 rounds on order right now from a distributor, so you have a number of options to get what you want.

I will have Silencerco's entire product line in stock in a few weeks once they get the shipment out to me. You are welcome to use any of the demonstration cans that I have in stock to see for yourself if you happen to be local.

If you already have an extended barrel, you can have that threaded to work with the gun. For instance, I have a Glock 17L with two barrels. One for bare lead, the stock barrel for jacketed. I am having it threaded so I can use it in my Glock 34. Threading runs around $100. It can be cheaper to do that than get a new barrel but you have to have a spare one lying around.

You are not as the form asks a person convicted of a felony, and you said your CWP status is fine so I don't anticipate having a problem with your form 4.

Any other questions?
