Make room for the liberals, here they come!

Ryder - dailykos is highly derided on digg.com, which has a very liberal lean to it for the most part, except for 2A, and there is a very pro gun crowd. I hate to say this, but many people who label themselves as liberal are only liberal when it agrees with their own point of view. Good article, but I see this thread getting locked for political discourse. The guys reasoning is interesting though.

I have never understood why gun control became a liberal agenda. Arms empower the people to oppose despotic leaders and that's what they claim to be all about.

I had a professor in college who was a proud Socialist (we debated many times) who stood four-square in favor of the Second Amendment and urged all good people to be armed against crime and tyranny.

I've found both sides of any political issue to be largely irrational. You can reason with individuals (sometimes) but never with groups. Doesn't matter if its a liberal group or a conservative group, get more than about 5 people together and their ability to behave in a rational manner starts to slip.

How very Highroad.

I'm sure that slurs are hugely beneficial to furthering the RKBA.

Agreed. I'm a liberal (generally) who supports the 2A, and I know many, many gun owning liberals. Nobody likes being stereotyped, why do so many here think it's fair game to demonize people who have liberal views? It has always seemed odd to me that gun rights supporters are willing to marginalize the millions of gun owning liberals who are on their side.

Anybody who has fallen for the mistake of thinking that guns are a conservative thing and that liberals are opposed to the 2A should give that link a read. Totally blows that stereotype out of the water. There seems to be a rather large RKBA crowd at DKos, and these people help to keep pressure on any wavering Congresspeople who flirt with gun control. Definitely good allies to have in the fight.

The link is worthwhile.

The commentary, however, has caused too much drift into political identity and philosophy.

"Liberal" vs. "conservative" (no matter how grossly misapplied those labels may be) is always a touch subject and doesn't make for a "High Road" discussion.

Suffice to say, all are welcomed to engage in the fight to preserve our RKBA.
