Need info on NcStar AR 15 Scopes

Heh, yeah go with Nikon. Buy once, cry once.

I think an easy Google of "NcStar scope reviews" will yield a lot of results.

I have had my fair share of cheap Simmons, BSA, Tasco various optics and they were junk. Nikon is a great deal for the money but there are other brands that are worth looking into.

1. What do you plan to use the optic for?

2. What is your budget?

On a good note, the highest end models of the cheapest brands can be okay and last awhile, but if you're going to the top end of these companies, you might as well pay a tiny bit more and get a Nikon Prostaff, Vortex Crossfire, Redfield(?), etc...

Oh and that stuff you said about 5.56 bullets could use some revising and research. My 1/7 upper shoots 55 gr very well. But that is off topic and we have a great wealth of info here to search through.

YMMV, but my 1/7" shoots 55 grains great out to at least 300 (as far as I can shoot on my dads land), so don't limit it to 62+...

Only experience with McStar is with a spotting scope ... junk from day 1 but cheap enough that I didn't bother sending it back. I can't imagine they make anything sturdy enough to actually mount on a gun and work for more than a day.

1:7 and 1:8s will often shoot light weights, especially the match quality 52s quite well. I think the effects of "overtwisting" have more to do with the bullet quality than the barrel twist - especially bullet concentricity and weight distribution. Of course, the opposite is not true ... undertwisting does not generally work ... 1:9 *may* shoot up to 77s (rarely) but are usually not going to be acceptable past 69s or even 62s.

My NcStar golf ball launcher works pretty well. I've looked at their BUIS's, and might consider them in the future on a budget gun. The only item I had with glass in it from has been sent back for repairs, and I will never buy anything but the most basic, simple, non-complicated items they sell from now on. No more optics.
