Problem with decapper on LNL Press HELP!!!

I have had this problem also with decapping pins, what I did is took my dremmel and ground a very small flat spot on the decapping pin end.

Dillon dies took care of this problem for me. I don't know why but I have only had that problem with pistol loading and never with rifle. Oh and before anyone posts a smiley with rolling eyes this isn't a plug for dillon, I use a hornady LNL AP with dillon dies.

When I have had this happen (infrequently), I was able to remedy it by adjusting the die so that slightly more of the decapping pin was protruding.

It just helped, in my case, to push the spent primers a little farther down below the shellplate.

This was a significant issue for me at one point with my LNL AP.

Make sure that the pin is firmly tightened on the spindle; you do not want it to wobble at all.

Make sure that the pin is clean. Polishing it lightly will also help.

Since I've taken care of both of those issues, I have not had a recurrence of the problem.

I had this problem and just replaced the deprimeing pin. Took care of it for me. If you call the die maker they will proably send you one for free.

Decapping problems

Never had this problem with any die from any manufacturer. It does sound like a bear. I always considered the Hornady New Dimension Sizing die as being about the best.
First thing I would do is call the die manufacturer and see what they say.
I seem to remember some company having replacement decappers for other company's dies that were said to be "better."
Is it Dillon that has the spring-loaded decapper that "throws" the spent primer away?

If I understand you correctly the spent primers are getting stuck after they are removed from the brass, if so, are you sure you haven't coated the spent disposal tube with some oil that has now become tacky and hanging up the primers?

I like my Hornady LnL, but it SO sensitive to dirt and oil...

I use Dillon dies in my LnL AP -- the sizer does have a spring-loaded decapper. It gives the spent primer a good shove.

I polished the spent primer tube didn't help. The only thing I didn't do was square the tip Like i said earlier I got the spring loaded decapper end of problem.

Polish it with a buffing wheel and some white rouge. A Dremel tool with a buffing tip (or arbor) will do just as well.

For me, though, the primary culprit was that the pin wasn't tightly screwed on to the end of the spindle. The little bit of wobble that this introduced allowed the spent (and stuck) primer to more or less guide itself back into the pocket, where it would catch once the pin was withdrawn. Tightening the pin prevented that from happening.

I had this problem once. The cure for me was to press a small piece of paper towel (or other suitable materal) down the spent primer tube to clean it. I use the primer follower rod to do this every 3-4 hundred rounds and haven't had an occurance since.

I also clean the new primer tube the same way and it eliminates problems with any hang ups in the priming system.

I had this exact problem with my new LNL a month ago. I called Hornady and they said that the pin in the decapping die was too big and sent me smaller ones. They said the pin was pinching the spent primer and not letting it drop free. This seemed plauseable to me because the dang pin looked almost the same size as a primer. They sent the new pins at no charge. I haven't tried the new pins yet, don't have any spent brass left to try them on. If your dies are Hornady dies, call Hornady and tell them about the problem and request new pins.

This happened to me found that the bolt that holds shellplate a little loose causing plate to shift

Look at and replace the pin, maybe try twice. I stock extra large and small decap pins for my dies. Yes they are Hornady dies. Have only broken only a few in 25 years. But it is it good to reach into the parts bin and be back in production. Midway and others stock them. Just add to your monthly order.

Check that the alignment of the hole and shell plate looks OK when the ram is raised.

I had that problem with my Hornaday and found that it was the primer hose.

The hose was so dirty that the old primers were backing up and getting stuck under the shell plate.

I cleaned it out with a can of compressed air.
