Has Ruger Ever Made

I've seen them in 7.62x39. You might can run a search from a search engine and turn something up. From what I understand, Ruger has and will make limited runs of certain calibers. But, they won't make them if they don't already have a buyer. I don't know what constitutes a limited run. Might be 50 guns, might be 200. I may be horribly wrong, so don't take it as gospel. Your best bet would be to call Ruger and ask.

I would call and ask. If they did make a small number, they'd be the ones to know. If they haven't, they won't know that the demand exists unless someone asks.

Just curious, why would you want 7.62x54R?

I think that is a great idea. A rimmed cartridge is just the thing for a single shot.

Performance will not be that different from a 30-06, but since they are making No1's in 303 Brit, why not 7.62 Russian?

The real question is why would they? With all the .30's they have chambered what does the old Russian cartridge bring to the table? There really isn't much in the way of modern ammunition available except for handloaders either.

Same bore size... Why not ream out a .303 to 7.62x54?

I don't have two cases here to compare, but as my memory serves, the x54 is fatter. The .303 is (ever so slightly) longer... So the big question is the shoulder. Can the shoulder on the .303 be taken out by reaming with a x54 reamer? Would an "improved" shoulder (similar to Ackley Improved) be able to take care of any possible problem? (And still be able to fire factory rounds, just like the many Ackley chambers.)

Anybody have the cartridges (or cases) they could compare?

Don't get me wrong, I like oddballs, I even shoot a 1/2 action Martini Henry in .300 Sherwood and have 2 in 360 No. 5. The question is why would a manufacturer? Most people buying Number 1's are not looking to shoot cheap surplus ammo, if that's all you want then get a Mosin and have at it (from the manufacturers point of view). Now people will pay a few dollars more for a classic like the .375 H&H or the .450/400, I just don't think there are enough people willing to shell out for a 7.62x54 to make it worth their while.

I just looked at the 303 and 7.62x54R side by side.

You couldn't ream out a chamber for it.

The shoulder on the 303 is way too high.

Good idea though.

i think it the lack of high quality ammo, there's tons of mil-surp. but i dont think i know of many manufactures other than s&b that produces high quality hunting ammo. IMHO i would by one if they made it.

Endless supply of cheap old mil-sup corrosive ammo with cracking case necks too.

Ruger would be crazy to open themselves up to all the warranty calls from people too dumb to clean their rifles with hot water every time they shot WWII ammo in them.

Of course the Ruger No.1 is a $1,000+ rifle, so can't imagine one who bought it would be worried about ammo price.
