About Winchester 9mm Whitebox. Is it me or just?

Manufacturers do change powders or blends thereof from time to time. But, provided the powder is completely combusting and not leaving unburned granules behind, simple carbon or soot buildup doesn't hurt a thing.

i haven't bought WWB at chinamart since they started selling federal champion cheaper, and the price jumped on the WWB.

Its messy stuff. My strong hand/arm will be covered by powder after a range session. I only buy this stuff if I cannot find the Federal Champion.

I stopped buying WWB when I noticed how filthy it was and had some hang fires. I also saw on arfcom that a few people had mis-seated bullets. No thanks. Meanwhile federal has been great.

I've notice the same thing but in .45 acp. No missfires just dirty as can be.

The Federal 9mm is all I buy at Wally World myself, it's great ammo for the price. The Federal 100 round .223 value packs are a great deal as well.

I've also noticed that some WWB in .45 has been out of spec length-wise. I've quit buying it in any caliber. As has been mentioned, Federal is a little bit cheaper and has never caused a problem.

I have shot over 10,000 rounds thru my Glock 17 over a few years. I now reload for mre accuracy.
Still the value of the WW 9mm is hard to beat.

Maybe it’s just me. I can run through a rain storm with out a single drop of rain touching me; leap tall buildings in a single bound, and be more powerful than a steaming locomotive but I’ve never had a problem with WWB. I wish I could experience the difficulties of others. Things just seem to work out for me. Most likely there are lot to lot variations in propellant being used or simply a different propellant. WWB is what it is economy grade bulk ammunition nothing more than that.

I haven't noticed that the WWB isn't any more dirtier than it was before. The worse I ever encountered was Remington/UMC yellow box. I think it was made in Mexico by Aquila. That stuff was filthy, but it worked just fine in my guns. Friends of mine say Wolf pistol ammo is the worst; dirty and doesn't smell all that great either. At WallyWorld I've been buying the cheaper Federal ammo.

No problems for me. I was wondering why I can now find more ammo at Wal Mart. Most of you guys are buying something else.

+1 I've noticed the over lenght in 9mm too. Works in some guns and not in others. I'll shoot it up in my Sigma, like Mikie it will eat anything, and then no more white box.

Recently I bought a Kahr CW 45. It gobbled up a box of WWB with no problem. Wasent excessively dirty and no manufacturing defects. I checked before I shot . When I went back to wally word that night for a spare box, Federal was cheaper. Why yes, I'll take a box of Federal FMJ . Cleaned it that night and it wasn't hardly dirty at all.

Yeah the stuff is kinda dirty, but I stocked up on a bunch of it at Wally World for $4.56 a box three years ago and can't complain. I feel that Remington is dirtier and I like Blazer Brass better. I don't know abou the new stuff.

I have noticed this as well, my .45 ACP brass looks almost like reloads out of the box, and the .44 Mag that I picked up for my boys deer rifle was extreamly dirty. When I was realoading the .44s, I noticed that the rims of the brass varied almost .005 in diameter.

Only change I've noticed recently in WWB is the round itself hasn't been copper colored.

It's been more of a gold color.

after years of getting boxes of UMC with uncrimpted bullets sunk into the shells, dud rounds, rounds that sounded weak when fired, i won't buy UMC anymore. stuff is absolute garbage. never had an issue with any other brand i've used.

I've never had a problem with WWB, myself. The cartridges I've bought all seem just as good as any other practice/target ammo, and better than some.

I've seen pictures of these for a long time, but all of the rounds of WWB I've bought--including the 100-round bulk packs--have had jackets made of the standard "gilding metal" (about 95% copper and 5% zinc). I guess Winchester decided to use cartridge case brass (which has more zinc and is very likely cheaper) instead some of the time or in some markets. Well, if it's good enough for Remington's premium Golden Saber line, then I guess it's good enough for range ammo.

I had a couple boxes of it in 9mm ball. All the text was in spanish. It was filthy and probably used cordite for propellant.
I haven't bought any recently but other than those two boxes it's been fine.

I've always found it to be "dirty" but I put up with it because it is reliable, accurate and cheap.

all ammo's dirty. who cares if one is slightly dirtier than another? it's cheap range ammo, what do you want? you're going to clean your guns anyway
