I was starting to consider a hi-cap 9mm for the range and plate shoots, when this PT92 model caught my eye. I loved the looks, the matte finish with stainless accents really hooked me for some reason. After some research I found these pistols have a stong following and a great reputaion...I bought one.
Bud's was was a pia to deal with and messed up but I finally got the pistol. In hand I was impressed. It has very good balance, a solid, tight feel and I did like the control placement over Beretta's. Ah the looks :) The entire pistol is matte, even the accents, I guess the non-reflective finish earns it the "Combat" title...Anyway, I thought it looked better than its pics, all-business and understated just like I like my guns.
On the range, its proved to be 100% functional with the ~200 rounds of Winchester and CCI FMJ ammo I have through so far. The big PT92 is a complete pleasure to shoot, the trigger is smooth and crisp and the recoil might as well be called a hand massge ;) Accuracy is fine, it does shoot a few inches low(@25-50') "dotting the i" and I had to adjust to a "hold over" poa but it does put bullets tightly on target. This weekend I'm going to try it out at a plate shoot with either 147g or 124g rounds. This model came with two 17r mags(Mac-ger makes 18rounders for the PT92 at $24). It is DA/SA with the decocker/safety and yes it can be held in "condition 1". I'm very happy with this purchase. On to the pics:

I've got one of these with the blued finish. Mine's a great shooter and at 25-50' I don't have to compensate very much. The only issue I have is that the magazines rattle a little bit when there's more than one or less than 17 rounds in them.
 
I can't speak to current production PTs, but my buddy had a PT92 in college that was tough as nails. He paid something like $300 for it NIB and he treated it worse than a red hair stepchild. His idea of cleaning was to hose down the pistol with CLP, at the range no less. It fed everything and anything, from hot Norinco 124grs to questionable gun show reloads. Last I heard the PT92 was still chugging along.
 
I really have no worries that "It's still a Taurus"...its is a well built soild pistol. And should it have a problem, it comes with a Taurus's lifetime, no questions asked warranty.
 
Isn't it time we put this "It's still a Taurus. Don't do it" nonsense to bed! Read any gun forum and you will see plenty of threads about lots of high dollar guns that have issues. Some of them are hand fitted and custom guns that should not have issues..but they do!!
I have two Taurus pistols that I bought used and have never experienced any issues what so ever with them. If I do, I will get them repaired under the "Lifetime Warranty" .
I would love to have a Kimber custom or a Wilson Combat or what ever but quite frankly, I just can't afford them and until I can (not likely...LOL) my Taurus will do just fine.
 
And should it have a problem, it comes with a Taurus's lifetime, no questions asked warranty.

Which translates into "We're going to have your pistol for warranty repairs for a lifetime and don't ask any questions because the only answer we have is that it's next in line".
 
Here she is all done up. Hogue rubber panels, trimmed front sight and a black Beretta 92FS barrel.
Not that it was bad before, but now this pistol is super comfortable, shoots to POA and is accurate as all get out...

Hhmmm...and I thought Taurus bashing was finally going out of vogue....I have several Taurus firearms....All have been reliable. As soon as I can manage...my final 2 firearms purchases will be a Taurus PT-92 "combat" model and a Colt Delta Elite.--Patrice
 
This is a very, very good looking pistol--congrats on the find. After the Beretta Inox, this is the best looking of the '92 breed.

I've questioned Taurus's taste, with the pimpalicious style of their latest 92 stainless, but the Combat makes up for it.

Once again, congrats on a great looking pistol!
 
I've had no issues with Taurus. I had a PT917 which is a short version of the 92, functioned flawlessly and was accurate. I traded it for a Ruger Bearcat that I couldn't resist. I have a PT1911 that I bought as build platform, and it also was perfect out of the box. I then filled it with Ed Brown and Cylinder & Slide parts, even better now.
If you want a Taurus, just give it a good inspection before buying.
 
Was the barrel a direct drop in replacement or did you have to do some fitting? That just looks awesome!

Not all parts are inter-changeable between the Taurus and Beretta....but the barrels are, making it a drop in replacement :)

Oh please.
I've had a PT92 AFS for about 5 years. It's never given me any problems. In fact, I sold my Beretta 92FS because the Taurus was the better gun!!

I like the stainless finish better than the Matte.

Thanks for the information on the Taurus PT92 someone I work with is trading me for a debt he owes me and I feel better about the deal now...Russ
 
The Taurus PT92 was the first gun I bought back in 2005. I still have it and it shoots just fine. I have bought a Taurus 24/7 and it was junk. The way I see it guns already in proven designs like the PT92 and PT1911 are pretty good guns from Taurus.
 
If I remember correctly Taurus bought the Beretta factory or the equipment from Beretta for the 92. there is nothing wrong with Brazilian steel or Brazilian chicks.
 
My PT92-AFS

Has been one of the best pistols I own. It's never failed, has a superb trigger, and is just a pleasure to shoot. I've had some bad experiences with Taurus pistols, but not with the 92. I can without reservation say that if you like the feel and looks of the Taurus 92 - get one. It's one of the really fine pistols being made today.
 
I had a PT92AFS for about 8 weeks and had to trade it off at a loss. I have small hands and could never get a comfortable grip on it. I shoot cast bullets and the thing leaded up badly after a 100 rounds. The trigger pull was horrible and was just not suitable for speed plate shooting.
