I have been waiting for this ever sinced I saw the one with a rail. I hate the rail on a 1911. So imagine my surprise when I saw this sitting in the showcase at Buds Gun Shop. After talking to Bud himself and others, seems that this is the 3rd without a rail to be sold commercially, with almost all others being sold to employees and close friends (like Bud). Of course none of us could figure out Doublestar's serial number scheme. It would have been way cool to have DSF003, but I'll settle for the one I got.

I haven't been to the range yet, but will be by the end of the week, so range report will follow soon.

Fit and finish is superb, no visible tool or machine marks inside or out. The best I could compare it to, and this is a compliment, is that it's very close to my Dan Wessons. The action is simliar to the many Les Baers I have racked the slide on, whether it will shoot with a Les Baer is still too be seen. ( I actually just ordered a Les Baer Premier II with no FCS and single sided safety today, so, yay for me!)

In the meantime, here's some pics ~

Beautiful pistol, I actually want one with a rail though. :D
I think it would make a great nightstand gun with rail mounted Surefire.

I would really like a 1911 with a checkered front strap. Nice looking pistol you've got there!

With the grips, front strap checkering and the checkered mainspring housing, when you wrap your hands around this puppy, it's not moving period.

VERY NICE, although I have never heard of 'em. Just by the looks of it, it looks to be on the semi-custom end of things (nighthawk, wilson, les, etc.) Anymore info about the Co., how long they been around, location, any other misc. info you might know about them. Again, very nice Steel, very nice

Here's a little about the company from their website -

DoubleStar Corporation is a company based in Winchester, KY. It was started to compliment the wonderful parts and service that J&T Distributing has been providing for more than 30 years. After many requests to build a complete rifle by J&T Distributing’s customers, Teresa and son Jesse Starnes decided it was time to expand the company’s product line and started its sister company DoubleStar. Since 2000, the same quality parts and service have been used to manufacture firearms for everyone from the average Joe Shooter to elite military and law enforcement units all over the world. With outstanding customer service and a lifetime warranty on our rifles, DSC is dedicated to ensuring the safety of your family and your country. Please contact one of our customer service representatives if there is anything we can do for you.

There is a misconception, especially in the law enforcement community, that the rifles produced by the "Big Boys" are superior to rifles produced by DoubleStar. Nothing could be further from the truth, here's why:

Experience : "The "Big Boys" have been making these rifles forever." DoubleStar is a newer manufacturer but it's sister company, J & T Distributing, has been supplying Mil Spec AR-15 parts to the community for 25 years. This is longer than many of the "Big Boys" have even been in business.

Barrels : Some of the "Big Boys" claim to fame is their rifles have chrome lined barrels. Chroming is a military application necessary to prevent corrosion inside the barrel during wet or very humid conditions when cleaning is not always possible. This may be a valid concern for some departments. The trade-off to chroming is a drop in accuracy. Although every barrel is unique, in general, a chrome-lined barrel will be less accurate than the match barrels DoubleStar uses as it's standard. There is nothing magic about chrome lining, it is old technology. If your department requires chrome-lined barrels, DoubleStar will provide them.

Parts : "The "Big Boys" make all their parts in house." Not so! Some of the "Big Boys" make the key components in house and buy all other parts from Mil-Spec venders and some "Big Boys" buy every single part from these venders. There is nothing wrong with this. The wheel does not need to be re-invented. Some of these suppliers have been making AR parts since the Vietnam War. They completed the long manufacturing learning curve decades ago. Of course the machinery used has been updated to the current CNC equipment allowing even closer tolerances to be concisely held. DoubleStar buys the best U.S. Mil-Spec parts available for all of its rifles.

Product liability insurance : "The "Big Boys" carry better insurance."

We do not think so. To the best of our knowledge there are only a couple of insurance companies left in the U.S. willing to underwrite a firearms manufacturer. The plans we looked at seem to be about the same. DoubleStar carries it's insurance through Joseph Chiarello & Co., Inc. The company has been insuring firearms manufactures for 22 years. Also, all the manufacturers of our major components carry their own liability policy.

We at DoubleStar, will not make the claim some of the "Big Boys" make. "Our rifles are better than anyone else's." All AR-15®s are parts guns and with a few negative exceptions, all AR-15®s are about the same.

DoubleStar pledges to provide you with an AR-15® that is equal to anything on the market. You will be treated in a friendly business manner. Our staff will go out of its way to accommodate special requests. In short, DoubleStar will treat you in the same professional manner J & T Distributing has treated its clients for the past 25 years. All we ask is the chance.

This model is so new, it's not even on their website - - http://www.star15.com/index.html

Looks good! I agree about the rail, I tend to turn off totally any brand that offers only rails and or front serrations. If it were mine I'd fix the front of the dust cover.

Look like a quality piece! Like HisSoldier, I'd want one without the juke in the dust cover, and mine would be free of forward serrations and their logo. Think they'll build one like that?

"I'd want one without the juke in the dust cover, and mine would be free of forward serrations and their logo."--1K

I agree with the reverse juke on the dust cover but, I like the front cocking serrations and logo. The slide is pretty damn clean minus that and the .45acp on the side.( unlike many manufacturers with logos, warnings, model names, 1911, made in such 'n' such). Its not a perfect world is it ? Whata ya gonna do ? Still very nice. Someone will always have something to say huh.?

I was looking at buying one of the railed models. I found out that they only offer a One year warrant on it and lost interest. Some have told me that they will fix it regardless, but I haven't heard them say it yet.

A non-railed model with no front serrations would look nice.

Picked up my new Les Baer Premier II yesterday. I hoping to shoot these two against each other this weekend, providing it deosn't rain all weekend.

Nice looking pistol. I agree with you about the rail. Tell us how it shoots.

When I was looking at the railed version, I found the same mixed information so I contacted Doug at Doublestar directly. He informed me that the 1911 has a "limited lifetime warranty." I went ahead an picked up a used/like new railed model. Shortly afterward I had a minor issue with the gun and asked him about sending it in. No questions asked, he sent me a UPS label and said they try for 1-day turnaround time. If the only thing turning you away from the Doublestar is the warranty, I'd say you have nothing to worry about.

Very nice! I could do without the forward slide serrations as usual, but they actually don't look too bad on that one. Congrats! Let us know how it shoots please. Thanks for the pictures!
