Glock 19 gen 4 Issues?

Buy the original Glock.

2nd gen

I would get the gen3. Personally I'm going to wait a while before picking up a gen4 Glock so that they can work the kinks out. The gen3 models are proven and have very little bad said about them other than ergonomics, looks and triggers. I can't recall ever hearing anything bad about the performance of a Glock other than on the internet.

What's left that's not bad, reliability?.......I've heard the song 2 out of 3 ain't bad but 1 out of 4.....Perfection in reverse.

I watched a guy at the range with a brand new Gen 4 Glock get failure to fire on every other round, and after 3 or 4 mags worth he gave up. Thought it was "needing broken in" at first, but I have NEVER seen a Glock that wouldn't work perfectly out of the box. Also, I have heard all the extended slide releases/mag releases and other upgrades for the other gen's will not fit the Gen 4.

I'm not keen on the new recoil spring, but IIRC the gen 4 doesn't require pulling the trigger to disassemble, which seems like a good idea.

I'll keep my Gen3 for now.

Reliabity is my first consideration for a handgun, as long as it goes bang every time I'm willing to work around things like ergos that aren't ideal or a creepy trigger. I could care less if the gun is ugly as long as it does what it was intended to do.

I guess some of us just have higher standards than.

No reason a pistol can't have good ergos, a descent trigger, look goooood and still be completely reliable......Some of them do all that!

Looks like we're side tracking this thread so I'll go ahead an bow out now....I just found your post amusing and couldn't help myself to not comment.

I cannot comment on the gen 4. So i will state only how i feel about the gen. 3 models 17/19.

I like the ergos, the trigger, the simplicity, love the reliability, and appreciate the durability of the gen. 3. I shoot the gen. 3 Glock models better than any other autos that I own, have owned, or have fired previously. A gen 4 probably cannot offer me anything of real worth that I am not already getting from the gen 3. That is just me.

Now, if the gen. 3 doesn't not fit you as well as the gen. 4, then give the current models a little time to work the bugs out (if there are any to work out) and get a gen. 4.

Handgun quality and preference is percieved as many different ways as there are people to percieve them. Research, pick em up, shoot em, buy quality, buy what fits you, and go on with it.

I have had several people shoot the gen 4 Glock better than the gen 3. I've compared them and shot the gen 4 better.

I've had one customer have problems with a new gen 4. It was stovepiping numerous times during the firing of a magazine. The customer was a woman and when I went and shot with her, it was immediately apparent that she was the problem.

For me, the firearm worked flawlessly. She had very little experience with handguns and was holding the pistol very low on the grip, allowing the Glock to flip in her hand which was causing the malfunctions. She commented today that she was no longer experiencing any problems.

I have no idea why the pulling of the trigger to disassemble is even an issue. We are supposed to only disassemble unloaded guns, aren't we?

i've intentionally weak wristed my gen3 g19 all day long to make it jam-and it never has.

The Gen 4 nonsense was targeted at the American consumer market in my opinion. They seem to love gadgets and do dads.

I have a Gen 4 17 and a Gen 4 19. The Gen 4's felt better in my hand over the Gen 3s. The grips are slightly more rounded, and slightly smaller.

The 17 was flawless out of the box. The 19 however performed like wyocarp's post. FTF, FTE, FTRTB. (115 FMJ Federal) My range's gunsmith said I must be limp-wristing it, yada yada yada, never saw a Glock perform badly. Well, me neither, and after the 17's stellar performance I was severely disappointed.

The gunsmith practically soaked it in oil and I got back on the range. No more problems in that session, and none since. I slowly removed the "break-in oil" and have around 1000 rounds through it now. I think it was just too tight out of the box. It finally settled in around the 400 round mark.

Would I do it the same way again? Yes, now that I'm aware of the break-in period if I got another tight one.
