I am looking to purchase my first 1911. The following are my requirements:
  • Less than $1000 (if it's a little over it's fine but I do not want to spend $1.5k)
  • .45 ACP
  • Government or Commander sizes (4.25"-5" barrel)
  • Stainless Steel or Parkerized (no two tone and no stainless steel dull finishes)
  • All steel frame. No aluminum.
  • Extended beaver tail
  • Commander hammer
  • Normal sights (I don't care about night sights or adjustable sights for elevation. I do not, however, want the crappy sights that come on the GI version of the 1911)
  • I would rather NOT have a rail but if the gun comes with one that is fine.
  • I do not care about extended or ambi safeties.
  • I do not like checkered front strap in the grip but if it comes with it thats fine too.

I think I have covered most of it. This won't be a carry gun. Just a gun to shoot at the range, look pretty, and maybe shoot at IPSC just for fun.

I was looking at the Springfield Loaded models (PX9151LP to be exact) but would like other options before I make my decision. It seems as though there is a shortage of 1911's at gun shops in South Florida. I have been looking around and the only 1911's I have been able to hold at a shop have been the real high end models that are so expensive no one buys or 1 or 2 regular models that have been at the shop so long that they have scratches and blemishes. One shop told me it would take 3-4 months to receive a Springfield Loaded model.

Anyways, if you could please post your suggestion as well as an estimated price I would greatly appreciate it.

I was going to suggest a Springfield Loaded. :D
Yes they seem to be on some long production cycle. :banghead:

Check out Buds or other online shop.

Jump on the url that Russ posted. You won't find a better pistol at a better price.

Good Luck,

RMD

That danged DW keeps getting mentioned.:banghead: I'd be going for it if I didn't just get a Kimber!

Order an STI Trojan with Novak sights, or a SIG or S&W 1911. Springfield Armory is another good choice, but would be my last choice of the four brands ( was my first 1911 ), good pistols though. I do not think that Taurus and Para Ordnance are good enough to make my list, Colt and Kimber do make the list behind Springer. I have Colt, STI, SIG and Springfield 1911s, I have used S&W and Kimber 1911s. I have listed these 1911s in order of personal preference, STI first and Kimber last, they are habit forming so get ready to start your collection.

The Springfield Mil-Spec comes with very nice 3-dot sights.

The GI model has the small GI sights.

Buy that Dan Wesson.
I am not a fan of buying guns without seeing them first... ESPECIALLY used guns. I have held MANY brand new 1911's at various gun shops that have had a bunch of scratches and other blemishes.

If I cannot see it before paying for it, even if it's new, I will not buy it.

I second that emotion! I own a 2004 DW Patriot EXP just like it except blued that I will never let go. It outshoots a 2010 Les Baer Custom Carry and 2010 DW Valor that I owned and sold both when I realized they were no better than my Patriot. The coolest thing about my DW is it was a gift from a dear friend.

Kimber Custom II has what you are looking for.

STI Trojan and Spartan are better pistols but have adjustable rear sights.
