Nght stand gun, grab it easy!

Some of us have a preferred "night stand shooter", at the ready, which is our tool of choice in the case of an emergency. there are special holster used on the bedside which allow for a quick draw. But that is not the case with everyone else. Some of us literally lay our gun over a night stand at hands reach, in my case there are two of them,on each side of the bed. :uhoh:

We find that laying a couple of pieces of phosphorescent self adhesive on the bottom of the magazine, helps you locate your weapon in a moment of excitement.

Why two pieces? Two is better than one, two indicate a direction, a vector.
Say , you could use the same technique on your light switches indicating the direction of the swipe needed to get that light on.

Please notice also both pieces are not the same size, indicating this way the direction of the barrel

You don't need to do on all mags, just that specific one, once you grab the gun, if you use your weak hand "saucer style", the self adhesive is covered so, this way it won't compromise your position.

The argument can be made by seasoned experts in the matter, that this enhancement is unnecessary, having practiced and honed that specific skill, unfortunately, that is not everyone, me included.
When life is at risk every bit helps.

I would be concerned that the bad guy could pinpoint my location (though I understand your point-of-view). Arguments can be made either way I guess.

I prefer it without the tape myself.

I simply put my holstered firearm in the same place on the nightstand next to the cell phone and flashlight.

I lay my gun on the nightstand with the muzzle facing away from me (of course) and just look for the night sights if I need to grab it in the dark.

Am I the only one who keeps his night stand gun OUT OF SIGHT? I definately wouldn't want to be shot with my own gun in my sleep. My night stand gun is in a holster which I fastened BEHIND the night stand. My flashlight IS on my nightstand though.

I have to agree with the above poster. Nightstand gun is in the nightstand out of view. I also have children in the house.

Indeed - if you keep the gun in the same place all the time it's not going to be hard to locate.

Myself - I keep my home protection gun on the top shelf of my book case (which is beside my bed). It's a S&W Model 64. I don't keep it in a holster, but I also have no need to make it glow to know where it is.

I like the gunvault, it sits on my desk (right next to my bed) and I can quickly open it, while a BG would have to break into the safe. It has a light to make it easy for me to grab the gun in the dark.

Not a bad idea, and to each their own. As for me I got a dedicated drawer for just my phone, gun, light and a few glow sticks (for the hell of it). But since its on the bottom of the mag and not a "function performing part" go for it.

I keep a big ugly dog in the house at night, when he barks I'm pretty sure it shakes the house a bit. Between the nightstand and the bed I keep a Ruger Blackhawk loaded with 180 gr HP, never really had any trouble finding it. Screwed a cheap holster to the side of the nightstand.

How dark do y'all keep your houses anyway? I understand that if the power is cut, well.. it will be dark but I live in the country and there is almost always some light from the sky coming in the house.

And, well... if the power is on I keep the mud room light on, so I can see that entry and it lights the house. I have strategically placed night lights...

The darkest room in my house is my bedroom, where I would need something like this.

Just curious. Seems like I am the only one who flips the light on when I need to go out into the house at night. I benefit from the light as much as the goblins would.

My training is such that I'm not going to sweep the house. From my bedroom I can cover 2/3rds of my house and all the approaches to the bedroom are backlit

How dark do y'all keep your houses anyway?

I was a night worker for several years and my MBR is still set up for day sleeping at night it is pitch black.

Just curious. Seems like I am the only one who flips the light on when I need to go out into the house at night.

In the Army I was trained that light is not your friend at night

Do you honestly think a BG can get into your house, then into your bedroom and get a hold of your gun and you will still remain asleep?

If so, I suggest you lock your doors and windows, or at least close them? Make it difficult or time consuming or noisy for a BG to get in.

It's happened before to people. Thanks for the advice, but I already lock my doors. Unfortunately it only would take someone a few short strides to get from my front door to my bedside. Why take any chances? This is what I do and it works for me. Do what works for you.

Glock 19 with Crimson Trace laser and strobe light. I use to keep it in a big sock but read about a guy who grabbed what he thought was his gun in the dark out of his sock drawer and it only vibrated.
