Why should I keep my S&W Model 60?

Because the value of older Smiths are increasing at a pretty considerable rate. And because in 10 years or less, you'll be kicking yourself.

But if you're gonna sell it, I might know a guy. Hint, Hint!

Because variety is the spice of life? Sell it if you want, its your gun. Someone like me will take it off your hands quickly I am sure.

Nowhere is it writen that one must have both revolvers and pistols. Therefore I'd say that you should keep the model 60 - unless or until you find something in either type of handgun that you want more, and/or consider better for whatever task you have in mind.

At that point if you don't have the funds to buy your latest choice, trade in or sell the revolver.

Always - the platform should be the best match for the mission, and sometimes missions change.

Some people like revolvers and some like bottom feeders. Sell the revolver if you don't like it. Tastes change over time. There have been times where I didn't "need" any firearm for years on end if shooting was the dominant justification for keeping something.

Just save your money for another gun. Patience! Tough times are coming and that M60 will be a very good friend to have on some lonely nights!

I just went out of my way to get a Model 60. IMHO you'll regret getting rid of it shortly after you do. The M60 is one of the best CC revos available. Keep it, and save for your next addition. If nothing else you have a great BUG that won't cost you any more to keep.

Keep it, if only because one of these days you may appreciate having at least one really good handgun that doesn't spew brass all over the place.

Keep it because every gun guy should own a revolver.

Keep it because every handgun guy should own a .357 magnum.

Keep it because it's a great pickup glove box gun.

Keep it because it's a great night stand gun.

Keep it because your son or grandson will love it when you give it to him on his 21st birthday.

Keep it because he will cherish it even more than you can imagine if you leave it to him upon your passing away - unlike some more "modern" but oh-so-pedestrian brass puking bottom feeder. (Especially so if you equip it with some really nice custom wood or pearl grips.)

Revolvers were the handgun of choice for most of the 20th century, not only for law enforcement (for which I count myself among those worthies), but for almost everyone else. Sure, a few folks had 1911's or BHP's, but most of us were just happy as clams with our Colts and Smiths, and it really wasn't until Glock introduced the G17 that everyone jumped on the bottom loader bandwagon.

You said you wanted to "buy another semi-auto" which implies, at least to me, that you probably already have a semi-auto. If so, why do you feel you need another?

I carry a Model 36 more than any of my other hand guns and don't feel unprotected, which seems to me to be the whole point of CCW.

The model 60 is one of the classic guns of the last century. Can you say that of any of the current auto pistols?

Bought my first Model 60 in 1977 ~ sold it in 1982 (needed money)

Bought my second Model 60 in 1985 ~ sold it in 1986 (sold to buy another gun)

Bought my third Model 60 in 1997 ~ Still got it



It one of the guns that I have always regretted selling when I did, and always replaced it at some point. Don't think I will do it again. No collection is complete without one.

Sell it

A TRUE Model 60 is a .38 Special, not that abomination on steroids. The 60 was the Stainless version of the Chief's Special, a gun meant for concealing.

Now, if you had a real Model 60, I would suggest keeping it as it would be a real investment as well as a classic gun.

I say keep it. I too thought about selling my S&W M66 2 1/2" snubbie because in retrospect I wish I bought a 4" one. But this revolver was my very first gun and I have has it since 1999. I bought it used and shoot it once in awhile. I know that if I parted with it, I would regret it later. She shoots just fine and I have no complaints except the short barrel.

Because S&W is offering a $50 rebate on all new J-frame revolvers right now, and it makes yours worth less money?

If you are going to sell it, at least wait until they stop doing the rebate.

Keep the 60.

Keep the 60 for all the reasons above PLUS if the SHTF you'll be glad to have a gun that will work with .38 or .357 as they're still pretty common calibers.

That 60 will work as well as it does today in a 100 years. I sold one years ago and have three other j frames, still miss the one I sold.

Two posts, eh? If this isn't a troll'ish post just to watch the pot stir then I'd have to say that it's your gun and your decision.

Obviously you've shot it and found that it just didn't do it for you so now it sits in the car as a backup. If it's been a long time and you just don't want to use it where you actually smile about the idea of taking your other guns to the range then I guess the love is gone. In that case sure, sell it.

As you can see there's lots of folks here that like them so they think you're crazy. But that won't stop them from waiting for it to hit the for sale section with drool coming out the corners of their mouths and money in hand.
