I think I figured out what our new member is trying to ask ...

... In NY State, some counties issue unrestricted 'full carry' licenses, while others restrict them to a degree. I live in Nassau County where we can carry concealed to and from the range, or while hunting (upstate only, no pistol hunting on Long Island). Assuming one has an unrestricted pistol license, I am not aware of any further limitations on where you can go though I am sure there are some. ...

I'm guessing notAlier is asking for verification of whether Minuteman has provided an accurate synopsis of NY law on this matter.

A quick scan of http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/newyork.pdf seems to back up his info, but I don't know the ins and outs of New York or Nassau County's specific policies.

I lived in Nassau County NY about 17 years ago. Based on my experience, If the laws haven't changed, Minuteman1970 is correct.

As the issuing agency, Nassau County PD, restricts your NY State carry permit by stamping it on the front with the words "to and from range and hunting where legal". This allowed me to carry concealed if I was going to or from the range. My reading of case law at the time indicated that your range trip could be a circuitous route.

So, some persons with restricted permits joined a range with 24hr access, put a case containing ammo, targets, eyes and ears in the trunk of the car and as long as the "trip to the range" did not include a stop at a bar it is effectively very close to a full carry permit. Any post incident PD interview would start with the words I was on the way to the range and had stopped off at ______ when suddenly...

notAlier,

I still stand by my statement. If you still doubt what I said in another post seven months ago, feel free to stop by the Nassau County Pistol License section on Franklin Ave. in Mineola to ask them directly. There are also other forums which have sub-forums specific to Nassau County, if you wish to check there instead.

By the way I also take offense to the slanderous comments/name calling you sent me via PM, which were uncalled for. There is a right way and a wrong way to ask a question of someone, particularly when you PM them out of the blue.

Let's not discuss what's transpired by PM here in open forum.

A simple verification of what Nassau County's policies are should suffice for Mr. notAlier, I think.

If he doesn't believe what members in that jurisdiction are telling him, then he certainly is free to check with the folks in Mineola, himself, as Minuteman as suggested.

I am still trying to "commit on" the subject, but I'm just not emotionally involved enough...:p

he lives in nassau long island ny he says he can carry concealed to and from the range on a pistol permit restricted to a taget permit only

the law states there are 3 types of pistol permits resident, targetand hunting, and a buisness carry. you can carry a pistol in the trunk of a car in a metal box seperate from ammo only. all you long island deleted started a rumor that you can carry concealed on you person .the only way you can carry concealed is if you a have a pistol licese with no restrictions the is no ccw in new your city.i have a ccw but i live upstate new york ask yourself this question if your pistol permit is a target only how can you carry concealed at anytime

Firstly,
Be advised that Nassau County is NOT part of NYC. Nassau County does issue restricted Carry Permits which allow you to carry a concealed pistol to and from a range or shooting event.

Don't take my word for it though, go to the official Nassau County Police Department website here:
http://www.police.nassaucountyny.gov/pistol_application_tandh.htm

Download and open the "Pistol License Handbook" on that page, go to page #5 and read paragraph 1, where it states the following:
"A Carry License, which is stamped Target restricts the licensee to carrying a loaded firearm to and from a range for recreational or competitive shooting, or for hunting, where legal in New York State"

I hope this finally put this issue to rest for you.

i read nassau laws on hand guns concearning carry concealment you dont seem that knowledgable about law theres is no ccw for new york city queens brooklyn bronx staten island manhatan this also inlkcludes long island new york/ you can get a ccw in upstate newyork only i have a pistol permit with no restrictions that give me the privledge to carry through out newyork state i can not carry in new york city . and again there is no ccw in new york city unless your donald trump you can not carry concealed weapon on a target permit, a pistol license restricted to target does not give you the privledge to carry concealed at any time to and from the range.i have a ccw and went through alot to get it and its a hassle just to add anther gun to my permit .

While I am certain we all want to be as correct as possible, if we lost sleep every time we believed someone might be wrong on the internet- it would be a hard life. Personally, part of how credible someone seems always stems from how well they express themself...

the pistol hand book is wrong you can carry a weapon to and from the range in the trunk of your car locked in a metal box seperate from ammo.google nassau gun laws .

I always figured the cyber-police would have spell-check and a basic understanding of grammar.

notAlier, you're coming off as a busybody, what's your beef with a citizen arming themselves, exactly?

Read the NYS penal laws

I am retired LEO and have a 'fair' understanding of the laws of NYS as I was 'on the job' in Western NY and was born and raised in NYC.

There are CCW permits in NYC and I know a few that have them.

ANY place in NYS that is out of the city can and does allow CCW.

The judges in various jurisdictions take libertys and make their own limitations on the permits they are supposed to issue.

I now have a permit only and can CCW in NYC as being ret.LEO they "allow" me,as they allow all retired LEO's in NYS & NYC.

be advised nassau is part of long island which is part of new york i dont now if you ever heard of long island new york and if long islang isnt part of new york then it must be a seperate state lol

again new york state allows ccw to your average person new york city will only give a ccw to a jewlyer a prosacuter maybe ,or a celebrity like donald trump howard stern the average person will never get a ccw in new york city my ccw is for newyork upstate where i live ag clearly says not valid in new york city

again google gun laws in nassau im glad you atleast admit restrictions which is the key word to carry a concealed weapon ccw you need a pistol permit with no restrictions if you have a target permit it allows you to carry a weapon to and from the range Quote the weapon must be locked in a metal box unloaded with the ammo seperate you infomation is wrong please google the law which gave me the same link and read carfully under target/hunting

punctuation and a less authoritarian approach might get you further.

US constitution said:
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

So, what's your hang-up with infringing on the rights of others, notAlier?

Post #13 seems to answer the question about the law. And a person in NY should be able to find out quite easily what are the laws of the state, the counties and the cities.

Enough.
