Randall Knives ?

They are still in business. You could probably inquire to them about the history. Whatever you do, DON'T EVER SELL IT! The current wait for one now is about 5 years from date of order.

Do not sell that knife, or if you are going to please do your homework. One of the most in-demand knife makers around.

Do a search on E-Bay and you'll understand what they are worth.

If my father gave me a Randall, I'd NEVER get rid of it.

I have a Randall knife I ordered when I was 17 years old at Camp LeJeune, N.C. Had to borrow money from the Federal Credit Union to pay for it. It was expensive but he (they) made it for me. I waited well over a year to get this knife. I was already in WesPac at a small base called Dong Ha when the 'chopper brought the mail and there it was. 7 inch straight edge blade (non serrated) and sharp as a brand new Gillette razor blade. I'm not sure how they work today but back then if you wanted a knife you got in contact with him, told him what you wanted, paid your money and got on a waiting list....

Your knife, if it is old enough, might even have been made by old man Randall himself.

Randall has a line-up of standard knives and a myriad of custom features you can add to your knife. Custom add-on can greatly affect the value of your knife. I agree with Sniper5 and HSO that you should do some research to find out more about your knife and it's value. Never sell it without doing this first. Just conversation here. HSO may not even want it on here. It was April or May of 1966 when I ordered my Randall. It was delivered to me in early December of 1967. I like my Randall but I like my USMC Kabar's to, and I REALLY like my USMC Case XX's.....

Hey, that's why they make Fords and Chevys.

We all like what we like. I like Buck knives and don't have much use for the big KaBar stickers. My 119 has been a great one.

I'm eager to get a custom knife, but I'm still discerning what I want from one, apart from a clone of my sharpfinger or 119.

I still have my Vietnam era Model #1.
Wouldn't part with it.

As for availability?
I have my own personal feelings about that!

Funny that you, or I, or GI Joe have to wait 4-5 years to get one direct from Randall.
But the Evil-bay price gougers have a gazillion new ones with custom features for sale at inflated prices, and more coming in all the time.

Maybe if Randall took care of the the solders and little guys first?
No wait, they can't do that!

It would drive the crazy collector prices down and create instant panic & hostility among his largest repeat customers!!
The evil-bay price gouging dealers that are getting first crack at them all!

Perhaps it would behoove you to know what you're talking about. Current wait time for active duty service members is approximately six weeks. Really.

In the summer of 1967 on my leave before going to Panama then off to VN I stopped in and picked up from Bo Randall the #1-8 I ordered in April. He put guys going to Nam on priority and it was 90 days to get one then, not including shipping time that took a week or two in them days. Took 6 weeks in 1969 to get my #14. By then the normal wait time was up to 2 years. Those older Bo Randall knives sure look alot more finely crafted then todays!

My first was a model 18. If your like me, Then you will eventually find yourself owning a model 14 and model 16 & lastly a model 1. They are a highly desirable piece of kit. I use model 14 every time I hit the woods. The others are safe queens. I will never sell my Randalls!

Realize this is a Randall thread so I'll get out of here quick. Yes, Buck make's some wonderful knives. I have the NightHawk and one of my very favorites is the Buck 103. I call it my 'skinner' which is what it is. They're put away here. Used to be for years I wouldn't be caught dead without the 103 on my body somewhere...Appologize for the temporary hijack of the thread....

Frodo, Da#m you! I have drool all over my shirt now!! My bought my first Randall(a Model 15) right out of Ranger school and still have it. As soon as I get my camera back from the "Dropped your camera eh dumb a##? repair center" I will post a picture of my minescule collection. How many years have you been building that collection?

I bought my first one in 1977, so it's been a long time. Some days it feels longer than others, if you know what I mean.

I suppose I could do that . . . but that would cost money. Money that I'd rather spend on knives.

I know that when I got my Randall there was a hand written note in the box. Just one short paragraph. I won't repeat it here but it is burned into my heart and soul. Basically told me thanks for the order and good luck and my country stood behind me and not to be afraid. Well, I done a good job and my Service Record Book (SRB) bear's testimony to it but By God I was scared just about all the time! That extra $65.00 combat pay every month was real good though and I needed it to....PS. I was reluctant to use the Randall. It was expensive and I was so proud of it and I wanted to take good care of it. Besides, like I said, I like the Kabar to and my Kabar alway's done a real good job and I knew that if something happened to it I wouldn't have any trouble getting a free replacement as soon as I got back to the rear....
