Mossberg Maverick VS NEF Pardner Pump?

Buddy of mine has a 20ga Maverick. Shoots just fine. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend one to anybody. Every once in a while Academy has the field version for $160, which comes with a 26" vent ribbed barrel.

i would go with the nef pardner. there was a metalurgic test on the weapon and it actually had BETTER metal than the 870 express. i also simply like the 870 ergonomics and trigger better.

I have the Maverick 88 in the 18'' its a nice shotgun for the money ive been very pleased with it

I have an NEF Pardner Pump, modified to suite my tastes. Many parts for the 870 fit it, the weapon shoots great, and I bought mine for $98 at a pawn shop. Personally, I wouldn't give this weapon up for the world.

I own a Maverick 88 in 12 gauge that was bought new around 2000 for $139.00 to use Dove hunting because at the time I did not want to scratch up my older wood stocked Mossberg 500.
I have fired several cases of shotgun shells through it and have never had one issue with it.
Check the sales weekly and look online as well and you will find one eventually at a good price I am sure.
All I know about the NEF is what I was told and if it's made in Red China I cant buy one today,tomorrow,or ever.
That is of course my personal choice.

I have a maverick and can't say anything negative about it. Great shotgun. My next shotgun might be another maverick. I've never shot a pardner pump.

the saddle scope mount I used require a little bit of modification to fit, but the heatshield, magazine extension, and shell holder all fit with no problems. I read somewhere that the only difference between the Pardner Pump and the 870 are that the flange for the Pardner(where the barrel meets the reciever) is a bit longer, requiring Pardner-specific barrels.

But everything I used to modify my Pardner Pump was all listed as parts for a Remington 870.

And just because it's made in china doesn't mean it's crap. I walked a creekbed with it the other day, over a mile round trip with a 45-degree sideways incline through mud and heavy brush. It got a little dinged up but I trust it'll go bang when I want it to.

My VEPR was made in Russia and my Norinco was made in China, and I don't have an issue with that.

When I hear "I wouldn't buy it because it's made in xxxx", 70% of the time the people making that statement drive Hondas, Toyotas or worse yet, Fords or Chevys made in Mexico or Korea! (Ford Fusions are made in Mexico, while Camries and Accords are made in the U.S.)

Let's face it, whether we like it or not, everything is globalized now.

Cerebus Capital owns NEF (as well as Remington and some other firearm manufacturers), and they chose to make the NEF Pardner in China.

And with that said, the NEF Pardner was put through torture tests by experts hired by Cerebus, and it passed with flying colors. It's built like a tank (better build quality than the 870, IMO), and I've yet to hear one person who bought one have any serious problems with them, unlike the incredibly inconsistent quality on two very famous American made shotguns that I will not refer to specifically.

For the record, I'd love to find everything I need and want in incredible quality and affordable prices made all here in the United States. I'd sacrifice a lot for that to happen. But it's not going to happen, no matter what I sacrifice. The powers that be have ordained it otherwise.

My dad picked up the Pardner today and I really like it. We might go shoot it tommorow and if I like it we might stop and get another. He got it new at Walmart for $160. I think Remington owns Marlin, NEF, & H&R. Is that true? I like that its made in China. Look at them, they go to school 12 hrs a day and like 365 days a year, and look at them, Sony, Nintendo, all made by Asia or China. I got a Reminton 770 in 30-06 for Christmas. We'll go shoot it and the NEF tomorrow hopefully. And I need a shotgun because all I have are single-shots. and one is a NEF Pardner. We don't have a pump. Except for my cousin who has a Mossberg 500 16 gauge. and its almost 40 years old and we may shoot it too.

I will set the record straight JQP on my particular feelings on this.
I do everything I can not to help prop up a communist police state whose interest is certainly not ours.

amen brother, i feel the same way. we need to take care of U.S. gun makers.

A little off topic, are we? He asked about the weapons themselves, not their nationality.

Last I checked, NEF is a part of the same company as Remington(as stated in an earlier post). If you go along that train of thought, you shouldn't buy a Remington either, not because of their build quality or decades of dependable performance, but merely because it's made by the same company that makes the NEF version.

Here's my two cents. they are both good shotguns, and will last you. BUT you can get much better quality if you are willing to buy used rather than looking at new guns.

I go to gun shops and see really nice older Remington 870, Winchester 1200/1300, Mossberg 500/590, etc... all on the used gun shelf in that price range.

Just last year I bought a like new 12ga. Winchester 1300 for my dad for $186. It is one of the nicest made and smoothest pump shotguns I've felt. Comparable in smoothness to the browning pump guns I've handled. Great wood, smooth deep blueing, etc...

Definitely a higher quality gun than anything that sells new in the sub-$200 range.

So Logan, my suggestion is to wait, and learn a little bit about shotguns. You don't have to know TONS. Just learn enough. You're only 13, so you have a chance to train yourself to be a smart, educated shopper. Don't be silly and impulsive and buy a cheapo shotgun tomorrow just because you can. Buy a better quality shotgun for the same price as the cheapos.

Logan, enjoy your gun. Hope you can pass it on down someday after many years with it.
