There have been a lot of threads recently started that point out that sources inside the Obama administration say that the gun control issue is not dead and that Obama will bring it up shortly. There have also been numerous calls by some congressmen to re-enact magazine and assault weapons bans.

Can we please stop with these threads? Until the law actually takes effect, there is nothing to worry about.

Hopefully the moderators will continue to close these annoying threads as they pop up.

I agree, though Drudge just posted one of the articles on his website......

I expect plenty more threads to pop up.

Then it's a little too late.

"If we wait til a bill is in committee, we have waited too long. Our legislators need CONSTANT reminding not to propose gun control. I feel many people here are sticking their heads in the sand on this issue. I lived through the AWB and used Glock mags for $100 was an unpleasant experience that I do not want to repeat."

I am a bit confused. Didn't you post the above-quoted paragraph just yesterday?

P.S. Everyone here does belong to the NRA, right?

I think A thread on a certain bill/law would be good. A "Go tell your reps to not support it" time. But like 80 threads all saying OMG HR308 WE R ALL GUNNA DIE is too much...

Once it is passed it is too late to do anything about it. The time for action is once the bill has been filed and we know what we're facing. There's nothing definite yet, although from the Newsweek article it sounds like they want to mandate better reporting of mental illness to NICS (could be OK depending on what it requires), and maybe a push to close the "gun show loophole."

That said, there's never a bad time to write your representatives and let them know your opposition to gun control or to contribute to NRA-ILA, the NRA's lobbying arm.

I too think if we don't keep it at the forefront of our discussions and topics of threads we tend to forget until it is Toooo LATE!:cuss:

People that are tired of hearing about it have given up!:fire:

Yah, let's just ignore the whole thing.
Nothing bad is going to happen, comrades.
Trust me, I'm from the government and the internet.

I think it's worth keeping ahead of possible legislation through continuing pressure. Whenever gun owners have taken a "wait and see" attitude, gun control legislation has been proposed and advanced.

There's absolutely nothing to do regarding the legislation Obama may push in the future until the proposed legislation exists. No point in calling your congressman over something you heard Obama was going to do.

Until the train actually hits you, there's no reason to get off the tracks!

Take HR 308, since it is introduced, it would be appropriate to take action against it. Write some letters.

Obama, on the other hand, hasn't done much of anything regarding RKBA.

No, we haven't. We're just tired of hearing about what might, could, maybe, possibly happen. Most of us prefer to focus on real issues rather than play Chicken Little.

My sentiments exactly. Gun control is not a real issue.

Yah, let's just ignore the whole thing.

Refusing to discuss what is currently a non-issue is hardly "ignoring the whole thing". Here at THR, we've shown time and time again our capability in regards to dealing with any potential issues that may present themselves. However, the more energy we waste speculating and doomsaying, the less we have to fight actual battles. Is it really that hard to understand?

100% correct. This is why it's crucial to quit dwelling on these "what if" situations, and start getting active. If each of the people who started or commented on one of these "Obama might do something soon!" threads would have taken the time to write a polite, one-page letter to their congress critters expressing their firm opposition to any upcoming gun control measures, we'd be a heck of a lot better off. Posting news articles and speculating on what may happen is useless.

We have the chance to act now, to ensure that even if Obama does try to push a new law, our representatives will know where they stand if they choose to support it. So how about taking a second and do something worthwhile, and instead of playing Chicken Little?

Observe: rumblings & rumours of gun control
Orient: to the possibility of the necessity of the usual electoral action <====We are Here.
Decide: on the specific electoral action to take, and the circumstances under which to take it.
Act: Get 'er done.

Kingpin, is that the strategy used in Maryland? Aren't gun laws pretty strict there?

President Obama stated early in his term and campaign Gun Control was not on the agenda. When the Democrats had the House Senate and Presidency no Gun Control was introduced. You will see a revisiting the High cap ban, Even Dick Cheney indicated he's support restrictions on high-capacity magazines
But Hey That fact wont sell NRA memberships.

If you don't like a thread then don't read it. If it's something not appropriate the moderators will close it. Frankly, I could care less if it annoys anyone.
