Is this a good scope choice?

I just recently picked up a used Savage Mk II FVT with williams peep sights. I love the peep sights and love shooting with iron sights in general, but I would also like a scope for this rifle...for my budget (less than 150)...is this a good scope choice?

From what I have read I cant find many scopes that have had better said about them for the price.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with Vortex.

As another possible option, Mueller makes a really good scope for the money and they've got a huge following at RFC. I'm really happy with the one I've got.

The Vortex Viper 2-7 scopes are being closed out. The Viper is a much better scope than the Crossfire for a few dollars more at the sale price. I just bought a 6.5-20 Viper and a 2-7 (BDC reticle) Viper and am very happy with both of them.

The Mueller APV is a very nice rimfire scope. If you check at rimfirecentral.com it's probably the most popular scope their. I've been using one for several years on a modded 10/22 and it's great, excellent repeatability and the AO is a must for rimfire. Mueller has a new Tactical APV with target turrets for an extra $20 or so.
 
I had issues with the crossfire line. Recital rotated after 5 shots.
I went with the Viper line and love it.
Vortex has the best customer service, based in Madison WI. Great guys.
 
I like Vortex, but the Crossfire line is their cheapest line and just kind of cheap in general. Lots of guys have had them fail. Vortex does stand behind them though. I'd either step up to a Diamondback or better yet the Viper on clearance, or I'd go with something else if it was me. I think for the price of that scope you can probably do a little better. Another option to consider is the Nikon Prostaff's on clearance if you don't want to step up to the price of a clearance Viper.

You can get the 2-7x32 Prostaff for $94.99 there. Or the 3-9x40 for $99.99

Another option is the Burris FFII's SWFA has on clearance right now. They had a 3-9x40 FFII for $119.95 or something, but I think they are sold out. Might be worth checking into though.

There are lots of great scopes on clearance right now, so you can get something that's a lot better than it normally would be for the price of the cheap scopes.
 
You'll need to first decide at what distance you'll be shooting. Typically rimfire scopes are set with parallax adjusted for 50 yards. Centerfire scopes are usually set for 100 yards. If you choose a centerfire scope be sure to look for an AO or SF model if you plan on short range target shooting.

Vortex does have one of the best AND transferrable warranties in the business. Lifetime with no card to send in and no receipts to keep. If it says Vortex, they fix it.
 
Shooting distance will be anywhere from 25-100 yds...I highly doubt I will use this rifle for anything past 100. I'm kind of leaning towards either that Mueller or the vortex viper. For the Mueller: No real negative reviews, high power, AO, and $30 less. Is the Viper worth the extra $30 (which really isnt all that much extra).
 
The vortex is probably good. That said if you want to save a little money and have a good scope for your .22 a barska ridgeline works wonders. The optics aren't the best but they hold zero and are clear enough for the ranges at which a .22 is normally used.
 
If you're going to buy a Vortex get the Viper line on closeout. At least get the diamondback.
SWFA has some Burris scopes on closeout for great prices too.
