New here still. Just got denied a gun after 5 days.

Not sure why, but I called the store to check to see if I could go get my gun today and they said they havent heard back. 10 Minutes later they call back and say they just got the call and said it was denied. I bought a 1911 2 months ago, went through right away, nothing has changed that I know of.

What do?

What is the harm of waiting some time and just trying again?

Call them back and ask to call in the check again. Also, confirm they have the correct informations and didn't call in the wrong numbers.
 
I believe you can call the feds and appeal, or at least find out why you were denied. I would, as if nothing about your legal status has changed that's odd to say the least. Also, did you put your SSN on the form? It's optional, and some people don't, but not putting it on can lead to the occasional foul up.

The same thing happened to a co-worker. She had bought a gun before Christmas with no problems. She was denied a week ago trying to buy a shotgun at Dick's Sporting Goods. She contacted a friend (VA State Trooper), and found out that there was a convicted felon with the same name living in the same county.

She is not sure that's the reason for denial.

Would she not have been arrested at that point for attempting to purchase a firearm? I would imagine that IF the VA state police denied her due to "being a convicted felon", that she would have promptly been arrested/detained/questioned...something.
 
Simple answer: Nope.

Besides, its not the VA State Police (are there state police in VA?), but the Feds who denied her.

Interesting, I remember State Troopers when I lived in VA (years ago), but think of them (in retrospect) as equivalent to the Highway Patrol types we have here in MT.

More or less, it's the same way now. I live 2 miles from VA State Police HQ and I never see them on local roads. Always the Highways.

I remember at first the guy at the store(total numbskull) gave them the wrong social even though I had written it correctly, he then corrected it but I could not hear him talking so im unsure he didnt get any of the other numbers incorrect or maybe other information.
 
Would it be a red flag or bad idea (I REALLY WANT TO), just go to another place and try again, and see what happens before persuing to the ATF for reasoning?
 
I would go to the original store (where you were denied) and get a copy of the paperwork. Look it over, and hopefully, there will be a typo of some sort.

If the paperwork looks good, you might have to contact the Feds and find out the reason.
 
There is something very wrong when a person has to prove himself innocent before exercizing a constitutional right.
 
Why don't you just sell me a SAIGA12 then since you are competent.

And at the gentleman that suggested I go get paperwork from the store, I am sure my information was proper on the form where I wrote it, I am unsure that the tool sales guy was competent enough to relay that information properly over the phone.

I would definately start checking with everyone involved in this day and age of identity theft. Sooner the better but I dont wish that on anyone!
 
Are they going to interrogate me (i get nervous) or am I just going to say my name and social and get a reason then hang up?
 
You should only be nervous if you're doing something illegal. It's your right to have a firearm as long as you're legally allowed to.
 
If they thought you were doing something illegal calling would not do you any harm since they allready have your contact info from the form however not contacting them might cause you greif in the future. Not to mention the stress of not knowing why.
 
Im a nervous person when it comes to inquiring, not for any reason of doing anything wrong. Its just a habit.
