Accurate 147g 9mm Velocity

The only way your can tell about accuracy is to shoot it at paper. Since any 147gr load should be sub sonic there is no issue of the bullet crossing the sound barrier down range.

Velocity isn't likely to be an issue in accuracy but how well the bullet and barrel rifling matches.

I haven't used the 147gr bullets, but I will tell you that I have had absolutely no luck with lead bullets and 9mm at all. Lead and 38 special/44 special/44mag work great, but the 9mm lead bullet load has alluded me.

I do notice that HP38 (exact same powder as W231 I believe) is not called out for the heavier bullets on the Hodgdon website, only for the 115gr and 124gr. There is usually a good reason for this, so something is negative with that combination.

I did have great success with Rainier bullets, which are basically lead with a spray of copper on the outside. OK, more complicated than that, but you can easily scrape off the thin layer of copper from the bullet with a knife. I bring this up as the shooting range may allow these types of bullets as well and, in my experience, they load easier and shoot better than lead for about the same price.

I had very good luck with 4.0/WSF and the 147 gr. Kead lead bullet out of my Browning Hipower. Velocity was 989 fps and the load averaged about 2.5"@25 yds. WW White Box 147 HP's averaged 1017 fps out of the same gun. Hope this helps.

I like these 147g MBC bullets, nice soft shooters, no leading. I don't have a chrono so I can't tell you the velocity of the loads but I like 3.4gW231 @ OAL 1.16" and 3.8gWSF @ OAL 1.16". The WSF is a bit snappier and has been more accurate for me.

Thanks for the update. I am playing with 147g bullets and I am hoping to start shooting lead once I get my new gun.

I am getting a box of their 124 GR ones and I am going to try them in my P89 DC for starters and see how they pan out.
