Video of an Obstructed Rifle Barrel Exploading

But Mythbusters said it was impossible by testing shotguns under stupid conditions...after being prompted by a .30-06.

Yeah, I've seen too much evidence of bulges and splits on old rifles and shotguns too. I'm going to be careful about keeping my barrel clear.

Or sometimes that happens when you're using ordinance made in the 50s that has been through a dozen owners in a dozen countries, improperly stored, and put into use by someone with no more training than 'drop it in the tube.'

Occams Razor, ftw.

Looks to me like he was carrying that rifle in rainy weather. Could be the barrel was obstructed by water?

I'm curious as to what caused the obstruction.

On the second video, sucks for him, but he deserved it.

I've heard that sort of thing, but I don't believe it. People say a thin film of water causes a massive increase of pressure, and the rifle explodes. Hydrogen bonding is huge, but it's nothing on that scale. Now, a mud plugged barrel with fast powder, I can certainly understand needing a face transplant.

If you don't want rain or obstructions in your barrel...

If you don't want rain or obstructions to get in your barrel while you are hunting, take a small piece of electric tape and put it on the muzzle of your rifle.

I tried it 2 years ago here in the rain forest (WA state), and I actually shot a deer with it raining, and the tape on, the pressure just blows the tape off. You don't have to worry about water, or leaves, twigs, or whatever especially when you are walking through extremely thick brush (in WA state).

I can't imagine some water in the barrel causing that. Hell, there are videos of people shooting guns underwater.

I don't know if a little bit of water in the barrel can cause an explosion, but I don't think firing it underwater is quite the same.

Underwater, the bullet is constantly in contact with the water, and won't accelerate as quickly or reach as great a speed.

With a little bit of water in the barrel, the bullet will accelerate at the usual rate to near its full speed before impacting the water.

Again, I'm not saying that's what happened, just that the whole barrel being full of water isn't quite the same.

They did that on Guns and Ammo TV, fired a 45 in a swimming pool. The bullet didnt go too far but it did however bulge the barrel.

I am not sure that all the vides of "terrorists" having weapons fire are actually videos of terrorists. With that said...
