I HATE the rcbs strip prime system!

I have to say I do not like the rcbs strip primer system on the Pro 2000… If you look at my other post on this thread you can see I have Dillon, LEE, Hornady, MEC and RCBS…

Tonight a friend of mine called and asked if he could come over and try out the Pro 2000 to around 400 44mags. (He is interested in buying one of these or the Dillon) I had no problem with it but I told him we will have to set it up since I only had 40s&w shell plate for it. So we ran over Cabela’s (I live 20 minutes away) and I picked up the 44spl/mag number 18 shell plate. He was bringing his dies to use.

I have had this press now since last summer and never used it. I put it together but since I already have a Dillon RL550B set up for 40s&w I just never used it. So I put the new plate on and he put his dies in, we set the dies go the powder drop working and set right. I loaded the strips with the primers and he started loading. NOTHING but trouble with the primer system… It destroyed two of the strips, it would catch and chew up the strip then we would get it out and start a new one and it would run 10 or 15 then stick and not feed again… Now there is one stuck in there and can’t get it out. I will have to take the whole feeder system apart to get this out…:cuss:

SO… I can say I HATE the rcbs strip primer system…:fire:

Why would they not use a system like on the Hornady or Dillon, why try to make this with plastic strips?

Anybody had this problem and able to fix it???? At this point I am ready to just prime by hands and use the rest of the press to do everything else….

Thanks in advance for any info or a solution to this problem…!

Thanks I need to work on it... Right now this thing sucks...!

Those are self filling feeders for cat/dog food. Fill up the hopper and they are gravity fed. PetSmart and reloader approved!!

Might as well start here...

I've been running into this forum for years and when I landed here today after a Google search, I thought I oughta subscribe. It's been a long winter in Idaho, so reloading has filled a big part of it and when my brain passes gas, I usually find the helpful hints I need here. Hopefully I can contribute as well.
So here's where it all happens, humble though it may be. When we moved into this house, I knew from past experience that I needed dedicated space for the reloading process itself. This third bay in the garage happily happens to be 2 cars deep, so what you don't see is the additional 15 feet of workbench on the walls surrounding this space and the 3 lathes, table saw, drill press and other tool-like detritus, or the pool table, which being a horizontal surface spends most of its time keeping other crap from hitting the floor. The ammo locker and powder/components storage is on the wall to the right and the tumbler is on the other side of the room so I don't have to listen to it. Below this bench is hundreds of pounds of casting alloy. It's a 30+ year accumulation of ammo making magic. I was going to just post a picture of my old Lee mallet tool kit for 38/357 that I started this obsession with, but decided I'd hold off the joke posts until y'all got to know me better. :D
Thanks for all the good stuff.

Found the problem, the primer strip pusher is broke, and Kenny smashed one of his primers in the bottom of the unit which is probably what started the whole thing going bad in the first place…

I am calling RCBS in the morning for some strips and a new strip pusher and put it back together and give it a try…

IF that don’t fix it, I will just order their replacement tube primer feeder system and eliminate this Cracker Jack box strip system out the window…

RCBS is going to replace everything that has broke, I asked what do I owe and they said, nothing, we want the product to be right for you... So that was nice...

Just have to wait and see how it works with the new parts...:)

My Little World

Here are a few updates to mine lately. I added another SL900 and another MEC9000. My loaded ammo count also went up by about another 10000 rounds. You cant see it, but my closet and that 3 door wall cabinet are packed with all my extra components....lead, powder, primers and loaded ammo. It is kind of hard to tell but the primers, powder and bullets in the MEC picture are 3 rows deep.
I think I can build another 200,000 rounds before I start running low!
Ain't life grand!!
