MP40 first, and the M45 Carl Gustav (Swedish "K") as a second choice.

9mm is still a LOT cheaper than everything else, and always has been, even back when it was all pretty cheap.

HK MP-10, if I can dream - 10mm was made for subguns. If just for grins and giggles, either an MP-40 or a PPsH-41.

Some guy on Florida Gun Trader had an M2 Carbine selectfire for only 4 grand.

PKM. Ma Deuce is a close second but feeding the PKM is a lot cheaper.

Tough choice. I loved shooting an AK-47 on full auto in Iraq. Lots of fun.

Not nearly as fun as Ma Deuce, however, which would have to be my pick. Not sure if it falls under 20K.

Certainly not the M-249. didn't care much for it.

If I could find an authentic Sturmgewer, that would trump the AK, but ammo being a bit hard to find, the AK would still probably win out.

the MP-40 though, might squeeze past the AK, but right now, I'm sticking with my original gut answer.

If you were in a free state, the cost of a MG would not be so high because you could buy new - the only reason we have such high prices is that we can only trade with pre-'86 registered guns.

My choice would be a burst-equipped M4 though.

I'd go for a full-size Uzi in 9mm; good for HD and SHTF scenarios. It's not as exotic as the previous choices, but eminently practical.

I would say an AK-47. With wooden stocks, and looking all nicely beat up.

I've got a semi auto ma deuce and that's more than I can afford to shoot. I would probably go with a thompsan m-1.

AR-15 lower. Spend the rest of the money on a bunch of uppers.

I've shot them, they are fun for a second, I do live in a free state where we can own but I could not afford to feed one.

I would have to say I would like a American Arms 180 M2 22LR Sub Machine Gun. Price around $10,000.00 but at least the ammo wouldn't send me to the poor farm to use it.

Seen this demostrated years ago at Williams Gun Sight in Davison, Michigan during their LEO equipment show. Because of it's high rate of fire and low to no recoil, it bore a hole right through a car door in no time at all.


Addition:I forgot that I had $20K to play with. The other $10K I would use to buy ammo for this toy. Seeing that I can get a brick (500rds) for little under $15.00, that equates to approximately 333,333rds. of fun!

Now that .22 Thompson is sexy!

Probably something in .22 just to play with, then again maybe not. I have shot a number of full autos at the local police range and come to the conclusion that hand held full auto is impractical at any kind of distiance. It works well with big heavy guns that you lay down behind or pistol caliber SMG's that lack stopping power with FMJ ammo and might require a burst to drop the bad guy at close range. I prefer shotguns in close for HD and all my AR's are in 6.8 and would not be very controlable on full auto therefore I personaly have no need for a full auto AR lower.

That being said, I see no moral or ethical reason a law abiding citizen should not be able to own our nations service rifle.

Right off the top, I was going to say a full-auto M-16, but then I thought better of it. In terms of practical shooting, it really doesn't offer much more than the semiautomatic equivalent.

Not the B.A.R. The barrel gets red-hot after firing 1 or 2 full magazines, and there's no way to change it. The magazines themselves hold only 20 rounds. It really needs to be fired from a bipod, and the bipod is an ungainly and floppy thing. Had one, sold it after I got my M-60 (which isn't much to write about either). I do regret selling the B.A.R. because of the investment aspect.

Thompson? It's a great classic, but whatever it does, the M3 Greasegun does better. Again, had one but sold it. I could kick myself simply because they've gone up in value so much.

If I had to pick one full auto, I think it would come down to the Browning M1919A4 belt-fed. Believe it or not, as long as the barrel jacket is not permanently soldered to the trunnion, the gun can be broken down and carried in a briefcase. By substituting the proper parts, it can be changed between .30-06, .308, and 8mm. Or, you can put in an A6 barrel, jacket, and front bearing and make it a bipod-mounted gun. Plus, it can be used on all sorts of vehicle mountings.
