You done good!! It is what I would call period correct and fits in with the lever gun very well...you should feel proud. I've never attempted to make a holster but you have piqued my interest.

Simple but effective, I like it. Goes good with those guns.

Just curious how you came up with the design of the one-piece you started out with. Did you find the pattern somewhere,purchase the leather pre-cut or is it your own original design? I want a holster for my 6" GP 100 and kinda like the idea of making it myself,though it's been over 45 years since the one time I made something out of leather and that was just a simple junior high school project. Any stitching would have to be by hand if I did make one.
By the way,I think your holster looks great. I'd be very pleased if I could make one anywhere near as fine.

I can't speak for anyone else but what I do is use a yellow office file folder to make my pattern. Cut it out and staple it together to see if it's about what I want then trace it onto the leather. If I mess up a folder it's no big deal.


A couple I've made. Do all my stitching by hand.

Nice work. I gotta think the satisfaction of making your own holster would be somewhat like having loaded your own ammo...something I enjoy very much. A couple of months ago my son and I took my 22-250 (he'd never shot it) to the range,but at the time I had no reloads and had to buy new. Just wasn't the same. It was kinda like I was shooting someone else's gun.

Nice looing work, everyone. I also make my own holsters. I though I would throw in a couple of pictures but can't find them on this computer. I guess I haven't transferred them from the old one yet.

If you're interested in learning to make your own holsters I highly recommend that you buy this book. It's $13 well spent. It has instructions on making a pattern from your gun, sewing your holster together, various retention straps, etc.

Isn't there a way of stressing leather (I've heard that native American women chewed the leather to soften it. No disrespect intended...I have significant NA blood on both sides of my family.) to make it more pliable? Wooden mallet or such?
