man......come on. its bad enough as it is, trying to fight through all the airsoft stuff on youtube....................what does airsoft have to do with M1A/M14 rifles.

my bad......is that a real gun he is holding? ive just never seen someone dressed like that holding a real gun...........what kind of camo is he wearing? looks like some kind of german camo.
 
that's my issued Marine Marpat cammies, we've been using that for years. I threw on my flak and kevlar and went for a pic with my Polytech M14 and it turned out pretty well haha

Here is mine. It is a Springfield Armory IDF sniper. These actually have a fairly neat history. I did some research into it several years ago and posted on another forum.

After the Six Day war in 1967 there was a French led weapons embargo placed on Israel. Because of this, Israel had to rely on other suppliers (USA) and started their own weapons development. The US sent 35,000 M14's to Israel in 1973 when the Yom Kippur war broke out. After the Yom Kippur war Israel spec'd every one of the M14's, and the 10,000 best ones were converted to the IDF sniper weapon. The remaining were taken down for parts. The M14 was the Israeli SWS through 1997.

After Israel opted for the M24 as their new sniper SA brought the weapons back into the country, slapped on a NM barrel, and a new reciever and sold them.

I really like the scope and mount. It is very solid for a single point mount. The scope is very clear, has a built in range finder, and mine returns to zero when removed and replaced. I think the optics on the Nimrod equal some of the better scopes out there today.

The built up comb on the stock for scope use looks funky, but it does grow on you. It is attached with two screws through the comb into countersunk nuts in the stock comb. It makes for a very solid platform. No worries about the laces coming loose, or getting it in the same position when replacing after removal.

4th Gen Mount Coming Loose

M1A Loaded with 4th gen scope mount. Mount continues to come loose after a magazine or two requiring constant attention/re-securing. I am hand tightening the mount only.

Any recommendations for making the mount more secure? I hate forgetting to tighten and then missing the entire target...arrrgggh.

Help.
 
Loctite did it

I was able to take the mount and scope off, apply some loctite...let it set overnite and my zero was almost perfect the next day and the mount never came loose...YET...i think loctite is the trick.?

I wouldn't trust it... I have heard horrible stories about the Springfield mounts. I have an ARMS #18, and love it... it mounts up solid, sits as low as possible, and is made out of the same grade steel as the M-14 receiver. It is also a military issue item that is battle proven. That Springfield might stay solid for now, but it could come loose at the least opportune time.
 
I have had 0 luck with the SAI gen1 thru 3 mounts. They always shoot loose on me sooner or later.

I already made the switch to the ARMS#18 mount before the SAI gen4 mount was released.

No issues with the ARMS shooting loose as of yet.....and after thousands of rds either. Mine is the older split rail model.

Lowest profile, most compact/lightweight mount I have found yet. ( Even lower in profile then the LRB M25.

Another solid mount is the Smith enterprise mounts. I have one on my rifle at work, and it is a solid unit, although I like to build up the comb a tad for proper cheek weld.

Another is the Bassett mount. I have had a few of them for about 3yrs now, and no issues as of yet. Mine all work as advertised.

Sadlak makes a great mount as well.

I have a two point mount on my M1A, the second point mounts where the stripper clip guide used to be and had to be adjusted to fit, once it is adjusted and locked down then you don't have to mess with it anymore, you just mount the scope/mount combo and tighten it down. I can mount and un-mount my scope without loosing zero and it has never yet come loose on me. My mount has no name or initials on it that I can find and for the life of me I cannot remember where I bought it for sure, either SA or Midway. It is flat black aluminum in color and has a weaver rail. If I get a chance I will post a picture of it later.

USGI parts kit and a Wolfe Modified Medium barrel and op rod guide, assembled on a Fulton Armory receiver with NM trigger and sights.

I still need to replace that awful brown USGI handguard, attach my SEI scope mount, and purchase and install an SEI M14 Extended Bolt Stop/Release and and a SADLAK Tactical Magazine Release Latch. Oh, and figure out WTH I'm going to scope it with. :D

Oh, and is it wrong to point out that M1A is a trademarked name owned by Springfield - so only their rifles can properly be called such? I refer to all others as 'semiauto M14s', or 'M14 type/pattern rifles'.
