Pioneer Gun Safes

After scouring Google, it appears the only source for these are Ebay and Amazon, leading one to believe it is the basic Chinese RSC with whatever name you want to put on it.

They don't tell you anything about the thickness of the steel or provide any other reference for any specifications.

Given that you'd have to pay to ship it back to wherever it came from when you decided you don't like it, you'd be better off finding a local locksmith that sells Liberty's or something similar. At least that way, you would know what you're getting and could see it ahead of time.

Sorry I can't give you a direct answer, but there's my $.02 worth.

Search this board for RSC and you'll find plenty of material.

Pioneer Gun Safes are what used to be Frontier, and WAS built in Ft.Wayne IN...Notice the emphasis on WAS, the owner of the company found that in order to be competitive, he need to cut costs, and found that he can have them made in china, shipped here, and to your doorstep cheaper than he could even make them. I believe that he is selling under United Wholesalers. I purchased one from him early last year, and went straight to his house to pick it up, since it was a scratch and dent, and it is only bout 20 miles from my house. There are some things on my safe that is skimpier than my Dad's which he bought when it was in Ft.Wayne, but it seems to do just fine. Personally, if you can look past the made in China tag, Marc is a hell of a nice guy to deal with...my .02 worth

Are you happy with the quality compared to others in this price range? I know it has a few features that are a little more flimsy compared to the old models, but it looks like it stacks up very well compared to most of the box store options.

It looks like they are 1/8" bodies (10 gauge? ) and is a little thicker than most in this range. I'm in the Indy area and I'm thinking about picking one up.

Hopefully I'm not late to this dance, but I wanted to see if Joshua M. or anyone else had anything to say about Pioneer safes too. 1/8" appears to be 11 gauge which is slightly better than the standard safe for $800-1000.
The fact that their website is all but useless scares me some...

On the other hand, Steelwater safes seem to offer a little more for, equal if not a slight bit more money.
Again, those are Chinese imports too I believe.

Another inexpensive option for a gun safe

If you have a budget for a safe another option might be winchester safes. They are imports as well but they come with fire ratings up to 2 hours. Their's also American security's TF Series and Cannons Patriot series which both come with 30 minute fire ratings. Shop the safe place and call them for a shipping quote. Sorry guys for not getting back to ya'll sooner...I am very pleased with my Pioneer safe. Marc Brewer is a stand out guy, that really cares about his customers being happy.The biggest thing that I noticed between my Dads made in America, and my made in China was the paint. is is definately alot nicer finish, but my thoughts are I do want it to look allright, but it doesn't have to add to the room, as I have mine out of site. I live in rural Ohio, and the crime rate is non existent, so the 1/2" doors and all the other fancy garb does nothing for me. I have it on an outside wall, on the bottom floor, so the 1200* rating is more than sufficiant. All and all I believe that you will be happy with your Pioneer safe, and if not than call Marc, he WILL take care of you.

Whatever you get remember that the safest safe is the one nobody knows about. Keep it out of sight from all windows, visitors and service people who come into your home and might talk. The best example I know about is a safe that was bolted to the wall in a cubby hole in a basement behind a refrigerator. There was no way to know it was there without moving the fridge and as long as you keep your mouth shut no thief would ever find it.

Good, now bolt it down somewhere out of sight and tell no one.

Happy New Safe....down yerself a cold one and fill that puppy up

I own 2 Canon safes that I got about 3 years apart from Tractor Supply for darn near the same sales price for each and they serve their purpose. Don't know what ya gave for your Patriot but any safe is better than no safe IMHO.

Remember your dehumidifying supplies, they do make a difference.
