Tyler T Grip Prices

I know this has been posted on before but I just did another eBay search and the prices for them have reached new highs.

A J frame bid up to 60 with a day left
A K frame bid up to 86 with a day left
Another J frame up to 41 with 3 days left.

I guess I will just have to go to aftermarket grips.

I hope someone buys out the company and starts making them again to get rid of these collector prices.
 
"rumor" on Smith forum they have serious legal/business issues or maybe not.

That may be fueling some of this.

And the patents are probably long ago expired, so anybody could compete at any time they saw a business opportunity.
 
The old guy that made the tyler T grip had a heart attack. His son is trying to take over but can't keep up with demand. I get the impression he is trying to do this nights while keeping his day job.

Also, the new T grips are slightly different shape than the old ones. The new ones fill in more space and jam your middle finger tighter up against the back side of the trigger guard. You have to grind away some of the material if you want a fit like the older T grip.

Because the newly made T grips aren't as good as the old ones, and because they can't keep up with demand, prices are going to go sky high. especially for the older ones.

As much as I hate to admit I'm one of the insane high bidders on Ebay of a T grip, I did get the one I wanted for $66.00, insane yes, but the T grip was what I wanted/needed to finish of my M 19-3 remake project. I believe that the T grip will really set of the set of stag grips I received last week.

Between grips, shipping, FFL transfer fees, and gunsmith fees I may have spent more on assorted stuff than I did on the sales price of the gun. But I have shortened my must have weapons list by one.

April 23, 2011 update. My T-grip arrived today. It fits well and looks great, and between the stags and the T-grip the over all grip is not that different from the O/S target grips I'm used to.

Now the best part. A new, ever used, still in the box J frame sized T-grip just sold for $255.00 on EvilBay. So my $66.00 investment may not have been so bad after all.

Well, I checked E-bay last night, and notes several T-grips for sale in the $30.00 - $40.00 bid range, perhaps people are starting to settle down and get over the buying panic.

He should either sell the patent and make a nice, tidy little fortune ... or quit his day job and start catching up.
 
Hopefully they get normal production up again and start taking web orders as well. I can wait if I have to.

Its just the "if" I am worried about.
 
I'm worried he'll see what his product fetches on eBay. I'm currently three months into a wait..I'll wait before getting impatient and paying those prices.
 
^3 months!? and still no T grips? sheesh.

I ordered 5 of them last june-ish and got them in 10 weeks. I thought that was lunacy. I mean how long can it take to cast and polish 4 thimble fulls of metal into a shape that is your ONLY product? One guy should be able to do 50 at a time in a one car garage.
 
A thread at the S-W forum today talked about the business being possibly shut down by the state, along with ordering them not to take any new orders for product . . . and to either ship all back ordered product or issue refunds NOW.

In any event, it is still a mess out there at Tyler.
 
I guess I need to find that shoe box with all my old t-grips. Tyler was not the only Co. to make them.

I have a couple of boxes of these for S&Ws, Colt's and Ruger's guess it may be time to sell a few.

Too bad Pachmayr stopped making their T like grips years ago. I think they were only $15 and worked just as well. I have 2 sets and one of them actually are marked S&W from back in 1948. (on my 1948 M&P)
 
Those Pachmayr grip adapters have also gone up in price. It would seem since Tylers went up, folks started gravitating to the less known and less expensive alternative.

I never would have thought I could have bought all the T grips I ever saw on eBay 6 months ago and sell them now for 3-4 times what I paid.
 
$255 is nutz....Within the past couple of months I bought a NOS Tyler in one of those little cardboard boxes. I paid 20-some bucks for it. I believe the original price written in pencil had been $7.50.........If she'll bring $200+ bucks, she's outta here...LOL.

I'm plenty confident Tyler will back up and running sooner or later...Geez, the guy had a heart attack and his family had to deal with his medical issues and try to keep the business running. I've talked one of his son on the phone a couple of times and understand they do a good business, but it is nearly a one man operation. It's only been about 6 months or so. They need a little time to get thru the crisis.

I can't imagine that there are any patents still in force that would cover the product. If someone wants to start up a shop and make them, the only thing stopping them is the capital cost.
 
I didn't have too great an experience with my one dealing with the company. If people are willing to pay $200 for an item that can be made for a couple of bucks and a bit of labor then there is a great business opportunity for someone with some casting and polishing skills.
