New York Bullet Button

A detachable mag is a defining feature of an assault rifle, in ny. if it has a detachable magazine your allowed 1 evil feature, such as a pistol grip, flash hider, bayonet lug, ect. In theory a bullet button would change the classification of the firearm away from an assault rifle and then you would be allowed to have all the evil features you wanted, because such features are only banned on assault rifles. I'm not an attorney, ymmv

So what happens if you have a bullet button and stick a magnet or glue a lump to it?

The bullet button is the child of the most convoluted, tortured logic by the California DOJ/Bureau of Firearms. First they issued an administrative ruling that if a tool is required to remove your magazine from a rifle then it is a non-detachable mag. Then in a later ruling they determined that the nose of a bullet is in fact a tool. So that if you have a device attached to your mag release that prevents you from dropping the mag with your finger (finger is not a tool) and requires something like a bullet or a small stick to operate then it's a non-detachable mag.

I wouldn't count on any other State agreeing to this logic. Even New York.

For clarity's sake, the Bullet Button is the child of brilliant minds that saw a way to work around the convoluted, tortured logic of the California DOJ/Bureau of Firearms.

OK, yeah, can't argue with that. You phrase it very well.

I appreciate the tortured logic that allows Californians to still use sort of semi-detachable magazines and not have to spend their lives top-loading. But I deeply resent the need for the tortured logic when straightforward, honest, clear laws that don't unreasonably burden the Right to Keep and Bear arms should be the standard for the legislature.
