Walmart changed mind on bringing back rifles

Walmart has already added guns at many stores. I would think the more rural stores would be more a priority, but everything depends on sales and sales volume. If Walmat doesn't sell many cans of Bush Beans (or whatever), then I suspect they will not occupy their shelves for long.

Well, they didn't change their minds about 500 other stores, did they?

WalMart is bringing rifles & shotguns back to 500 rural stores,
just not 4 particular stores in upstate NY,
but 500 other locations will get rifles & shotguns.

It sucks for you guys in that area,
but I'm happy for the people who live near those 500 stores.

Yeah the article is citing certain specific stores. I know several in my area that did not have them for quite a while did bring them back.

Now if they'd only start carrying AR's!

Our local Walmart stopped selling guns about 5 years ago now they are selling them again
I for one will NOT let Walmart dictate to me when they will sell me a gun and when they will not, I will never buy as gun from Walmart.:cuss::cuss:

Meh. I'm not in the market for the kinds of guns that Walmart would sell, anyway. I suppose Walmart is OK if all you want is a basic hunting rifle or shotgun. But since guns like that rarely wear out, and the people that want those sorts of guns already have them or can readily find them on the used market, Walmart is not going to make a lot of money stocking them. As a business decision, it doesn't make much sense for them to do so.

Well, if enough people adopt that stance, that will help guarrentee they will again stop selling them. Good work! I don't usually buy from them because they don't have what I want. I do wish them luck with sales, though. I think it is very positive that the average non-shooting shopper gets exposed to guns on a regular basis.

The world will be a better place when Walmart decides to stop selling guns altogether. Folks won't like it at first, it might cost some people a few dollars and I'm sure this post will inflame some but in the long run, we'll ALL be better off.

Our "local" (40 miles) Wal-Mart never stopped selling the three things listed...that is firearms, fishing rods, or fabric. It probably has to do with the demographics of the area the Walmart is in more than anything.

I think Wal-Marts major firearms traffic is from area visitors that are looking for extra ammo, broke their fishing pole while on a trip, damaged their rifle/shotgun on a trip.

I know that I occationally will purchase some ammo from them when I am down that way and run out.

I have yet to see rifles in the guadalupe / bexar / comal county, TX walmarts again. The one nearest to my house doesn't even have a checkout / assistance kiosk in the hunting and fishing section anymore. But, my home town is about 50k people and only had one place to buy/sell guns until the recent addition of a Dick's sporting goods.

... Shrug.

Wallmart not going to put some guns back into rural stores like they said earlier.

That isn't what the article says. It points out that some specific stores in Sterling, Dixon, Rock Falls and Rochelle won't be getting them. Where they think it will make a difference in sales they will (just like they're planning on bringing back fabric and fishing rods).

CraigC, totally agree.

AlexanderA, be aware WalMart dictated the distributor price on those firearms. WalMart's buying power is impressive and they wield it not unlike a hammer.
I have never purchased a firearm or a bow from Walmart. Probably never will. Reminds me of the day not too long ago, I went to WalMart to purchase some CC Mini Mag Standard Velocity 22lr. They had one box left. One round was missing. Really. They would not sell the 99 rounds to me. Offered full price. They said it was illegal. You think I am surprised about that remark:cool:?

My local gunstore dictates when they will sell me guns and when they won't

They call it "Store Hours"

Walmarts in Alaska have always carried the standard hunting arms and the most popular handguns (Glock, SA 1911's, Rugers) and even some big bore revolvers. It's not a huge selection, but somebody has a keen eye for what the biggest demand is locally.

They don't carry black rifles...

I bought a basic Mossy pump at WM a couple of weeks ago. Did the ap on a computer screen, they made that federal call, paid and a manager walked me out. I had 5 boxes of 00 buck in a bag and the manager handed me my new gun on the sidewalk out side on the walk. The whole deal took less than a half hour. I'd do it again.

Actually, you dictate that.

It is strictly economics that is the deciding factor for each store. There are lots of things you might find at one Wally world and not another. Just depends on what sells and what doesn't. With firearms, even moreso, because stocking them is a little more involved than just shelf space and a new UPC code. The store has to keep an FFL, bound books and retain employees who know how to do the transaction without the kind of mistakes that make ATF cranky. Those employees are paid a little better than the other cashiers and are more difficult to replace.

California Walmarts stopped selling firarms long ago. Wallyworld could just not follow the "rules" in CA. I don't see firearms going back to CA wallyworlds ever.

They need to go about it right. Where I live, it's illegal to hunt anything with a centerfire rifle, save for the occasional groundhog or crow shot from the window of the truck. Yet, back when our walmart had guns, the entire case was stuffed with everything short field of artillery, except for rimfire rifles, or even the smaller centerfire rifles such as 22 hornet. Sure, 7mm mag is a bamf, but it's useless in our area. Put in some bolt action 22 mags and 17's and they'd move a lot more rifles.

That explains it, too close to Schliterbaun :neener: The Sweetwater, Texas Walmart carries long guns. Now, finding a knowledgeable "clerk" working that section I have no idea about. I did purchase some 12ga ammo and a few cases of clays from em once though.:)
