My Local Gun Show Embarrasses Me

They just wanted to make sure nobody has any loaded bullets in their clips.

Whats the big deal? So your gunshow doesn't allow any loaded Garand clips or loaded stripper clips. Heck, your show is better than ours, we can't even bring loaded magazines in!

2 things:

1) that sign was more than likely printed up 10 minutes before they put it up by some guys wife........


2) if you know the point they are trying to make.....whats the big deal?

it may not be technically correct, but for 99% of the people out there, clip and magazine are the same thing...

..heck, ide be willing to bet my shorts that more people would point to a magazine over a clip if you asked them to point out the clip.

I have never been to a gun show that allowed CCL loaded weapons. In fact they usually ask, and then you to step off to the side and clear your chamber and mag. Considering some of the gangbangers who show up at these things, I am glad to know that these posers are asked to play well with others.

This is a case where I give them credit for making sure they talk to the stupidest people who will be attending. They will be the ones who need the help. (But also, upon reflection, are probably BEYOND such help.)

Guns shows can create a very negative impression of gun owners. Ask someone who has never gone to one to attend a gun show and then ask what they observed. I'll bet they'll mention the tables of Nazi items, the bearded wild-eyed survivalist vendors preaching supplies for the end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it, and other wierd stuff. Recently at a local gunshow I recognized a salesman from a local gunstore, then noticed that the prices on the guns seemed excesively high. He stated that they mark the price UP from the store price to cover the cost and effort of setting up a table at the show. I'm enough of a gun enthusiast to visit this website pretty often, but gun shows, IMHO, are generally a waste of my time.

How is the local gunshow a reflection on you? I don't see how you should be embarrassed. No loaded weapons is a common sign at gun show entrances. Those signs carry no weight of law in Indiana

I guess I'm not part of the clip/magazine patrol...

Using clip for magazine is often a sign of someone who knows little about firearms but is trying to sound knowledgable. I am a motorcyclist, and I cringe when someone who clearly knows nothing about motorcycles calls every bike a "hog", or who thinks they sound cool calling a Japanese brand bike a "rice burner", etc. I don't get embarrased but annoyed when a newscaster calls a semi-automatic pistol an "automatic weapon" or refers to someone with a few boxes of ammo as an "arsenal", etc., etc. It just demonstrates ignorance, and lessens their credibility on the subject.

I think I can translate that one...

There's a certain element of the super-macho bodybuilding set that is prone to unnecessary displays of physique and one of the common, stereotypical, lead-in lines is something like, "Wanna go to the GUN show?" (referring to his biceps as "guns") and then yanking up a sleeve and flexing in a flamboyant manner. Sort of the muscle-bound equivalent of "pull my finger" I guess. If you imagine this said in an exaggerated, "Hulk Hogan" pro-wrestling kind of growl you're on the right track.

So this gym is trying to establish itself as a more progressive-minded health center rather than a testosterone-soaked den of 1980s 'road-ragers who'd pull crass and socially inapt stunts like that.

Doesn't really have anything to do with being pro- or anti-gun.

A friend of mine was recently kicked out of a gym and asked to not come back bc they said his muscles were too big and made the other people feel inadequate.

It shouldn't have, but the word 'clip' is now an accepted term for a gun's magazine. Gun literature, gun owners, and even some in the gun industry of firearms and accessory manufacturers use the term 'clip' to refer to the magazine.

Whenever I've corrected gun owners and enthusiasts for using the word 'clip', they roll their eyes and say, "Whatever".

This is a losing battle. We must assimilate. Resistance is futile.

For civilian use, clip and detachable box magazine are synonyms. Check 1950s sports magazines and factory catalogs. Technically inaccurate, but common.

For military, the difference between an airdrop of ammo preloaded in clips or preloaded in magazines is a huge difference, especially in an on-going action.

Oh jeez, not this petty nonsense again. What's next, complaining that the sign is redundant because all it needs to say is "No ammo" - that's enough to ban loaded mags isn't it?

Just wondering, I always take the rounds out of my gun (that I intend to test holsters for) What if I left em in, would they be confiscated? Or would the ziptie locking my gun closed be enough and just put em in my pocket?

If someone is pontificating, it might be a good cutting point -- to demonstrate ignorance on their part.

But when a mistake is innocent and so is the maker, it'd be a shame to be haughty.
