I have a Sig p239 (9mm if it matters). I'm about 6 feet and 200 pounds, so a little extra weight around the middle :) I've used the search function, but not much relates to both IWB and using only a t-shirt as the cover garment. Does anyone else IWB a gun this size without a heavier garment? For that matter, is there an OWB holster that will do this?

What's a good holster for this scenario? I'm considering a Galco Summer Comfort, but the lack of a sweat shield is a concern.

Also, where on the belt should it go? 4:00? Is pocket carry in my future? :what:

Thanks in advance all . . . .

Yea sometimes like today I carried my P226 IWB. Just cargo shorts and a t-shirt for a day out with the wife and kid. Sometimes it is just the easy route. And like you over 6 feet and over 200 pounds helps us get away with it.

My recommendation would be a CrossBreed SuperTuck holster supported by a CrossBreed gun belt carrying at about 4:00 - 4:30 in the full-forward canted position.

YMMV

I've tried it, and I'm not a big fan. Mainly, I just don't like having my gun rubbing against me, and I feel like a tshirt isn't as easy to get out of the way as an unbuttoned shirt.

Just because I don't like it doesn't mean you shouldn't try it. Before you buy an $80 holster, you might want to try it first with a cheap IWB one from a sporting goods store for $15. I have an uncle mikes that I really like, and if I could just find it, that would be my main carry holster.

Hope this helps.

I'm 6'1" and ~200 lb, I've carried a P99 40 S&W with a SuperTuck and a Remora IWB wearing only a t-shirt for cover. Works fine as long as it's canted forward pretty severly and the t-shirt is somewhat loose.

The P99 is larger than your Sig.

The Galco Summer Comfort is not a bad choice, but the lack of sweat shield is a legitimate concern if you don't have something between the pistol and your skin. That's why I switched from a Kramer #3 IWB to a BladeTech IWB. The latter has the sweat shield, the former does not. I carried a Glock 19 for years in the Kramer and sweat all over the last ½ inch of slide. That side of the slide acquired some curious pitting along the way well before I switched to the BladeTech. Seems silly, then, to choose a holster that doesn't offer a useful feature – at least for the way I was carrying. Guess I'm a slow learner...

I'm roughly your size (a little over 6 feet tall, 170lbs), and typically carry the Glock under an untucked t-shirt at aboutish 5:00 (right-hander). I used to carry a Ruger P90 the same way, too. As far as I know, no one ever noticed either one.

Where you put the holster on your belt is up to you when it comes to comfort and concealability. On the hip makes for a faster draw than behind it, but wearing the holster just behind the hip (as in 4:00) makes it more concealable and, in the case of IWB, more comfortable. At least it certainly works out that way for me. If, however, you spend a lot of time sitting, you'll likely be better off with the holster closer to your hip instead of farther behind it, otherwise you'll end up with the back of your chair pressing the gun into your back. Get a good gun belt. It'll support the weight of the pistol, and anything else you may hitch on it, far better than ordinary belts.

You'll likely find OWB holsters more comfortable than IWB and, yes, you can conceal almost as well with one of those as with IWB, the primary difference being that you'll need a slightly longer shirt. Raising your arms over your head, for instance, will cause your shirt to ride up, exposing in some cases the portion of your OWB that would remain hidden were the holster IWB.

Like many, you'll probably try a few different holsters before settling on one. Seems I went through six (two OWB styles and four IWB) before discovering what I really liked. As kayak-man mentioned, experimenting with a few cheapie holsters before spending more may be a good idea.

Duluth Trading Post sells t-shirts they call "longtails". Those might help in concealment with the extra length in the back.

I'm 6'4" and a skinny bastid (pants don't necessarily ride high (yeah, yeah, I'm the original O.G.)) and I could use all the help I could get if concealing with a t-shirt only.

Sidenote: the shirts are available packaged in a "crack spackle" bucket, since the idea behind them was to help avoid plumber's butt.

Thanks for the replies everybody. I've got a Galco COP belt which seems pretty sturdy. I'm currently using a Bianchi 100 holster - not quite a cheap nylon IWB but it's not doing it for me (it collapses after you draw the gun and the spring clip lets it slide around all too much).

Moving the thing around right now I like a sharper cant than this holster provides on its own. A higher ride would be nice, too. High Noon's "down under" may fit the bill. Looking around I don't see too much else that does this. Maybe the Don Hume PCCH . . . .

I've also got a cheap nylon pancake holster. I can see how the right one would work even under a t-shirt. Obviously cheap nylon doesn't hold the butt of the gun close to your side at all. With the belt looped around the outside of the holster it does get surprisingly close to functional though. What's a good pancake holster for t-shirt use?

I love this holster. I carry my P30 in it every single day under an untucked T-shirt.

Comp Tac Minotaur. I tried three other holsters before settling on this one. Check out their site. I found out about them from watching some dude on YouTube show off his holster. He was wearing his P226 with jeans and a t-shirt. Said he was 6-2 and 220 pounds, just like me. I figured it would work and it did.

Oh, and the holster comes with candy. Seriously. It comes with candy.

I'm 6' and 225 lbs and carry IWB with an untucked t-shirt. I've found that Milt Sparks' Versa Max II holsters work best for me. The cant of the holster is enough that I can put it at 5 o'clock and it stays concealed. I use "The Beltman" belts and have found they can support whatever I carry. Currently carry a M&P40c with no problem. Could go larger but I don't like much more weight.

Good luck with your search. Unfortunately, you have to try a holster for a while before you can tell if it'll work or not.

What's a good pancake holster for t-shirt use?

If you're already at the High Noon site looking at the "Down Under" take a look at the "Slide Guard" for a pancake.

http://www.highnoonholsters.com/Product_Line/_Slide_Guard/_slide_guard.html

I have one for my 1911. It rides at a good height and the slide guard does a good job of keeping the slide and hammer off your body. It also keeps the grip close. With a small pistol like the P239, the end of the barrel should not extend very far below the bottom of the belt.

I'm 5' 10" and about 180 and carry much larger guns(Python, 1911, Ruger Blackhawk) than the Sig P239 with just a T shirt quite often.

The P239 is pretty slim so it should be a piece of cake with a quality holster and good belt. A sweat shield of some sort is a real good idea with just a T shirt. Also, I've found that dark colors conceal better than lighter ones. A bit of forward cant helps as well. Obviously a tight T shirt isn't going to work. You'll want to make sure the shirt is loose fitting around your waist area to reduce chances of printing.

I use the Simply Rugged holsters with the inside out straps for IWB carry.

My concern with T-shirts is that they tend to be short and hug the body closely, unless you purposely buy them on the large or long side. Be sure it will not ride up if you reach over your head, bend forward at the waist, etc. (Actually, it is better to try and avoid such situations in the first place, but sometimes you can't.) Sometimes they can bunch up around the gun butt from normal walking.

How's the comfort on kydex with an untucked shirt? Does it take some time to get used to?

I use an OWB holster for a 4" S&W Model 15 or a Ruger Security Six (same holster fits both), covered just with a T-shirt or a polo shirt. Works much better than I expected. I position it so the gun butt is directly under my armpit; it hides in the wrinkles of the material better.

Comp Tac Minotaur.

This. I suggest against going to buy a cheap holster to try because it will only make you more hesitant to IWB carry. I had an uncle mikes cheap IWB holster and it was no help in concealing it. Since I have gotten my MTAC set up properly I have been able to conceal my CW9 easily everyday. My trick that I learned from another member is to wear a tank top underneath(like a wifebeater) and tuck that in around the pistol first then toss on whatever shirt you like.

Im 6'2 and a little less than 200 lbs. Being that I am 24 my wardrobe is a little different that an wiser gentleman's. I can wear polos and t-shirts without having to worry about it popping out. I practice drawing my pistol everyday with the "smash" grip. Basically ripping my shirt out from being tucked with my support hand. I think it works well.
