hey guys been thinking about getting one of my 1911's engraved... what do you guys think about engraving. good,bad, otherwise. would you do it? this wont be a carry gun so its a non-issue really. just for fun mainly. stumbled on this when looking at photos.

I just don't like too much scroll work. I'd be hapier with that particular 1911 with a really nicely done blued finish. I'd only want engraving for me if it displayed my son's birthday and/or name so that I could pass it to him one day.

However, I've seen a few that I liked along with some nicely done revolvers. I've even seen some laser cut glocks that I liked.

But if you like that sort of thing, you don' need our approval. :neener:
 
That looks ugly and tacky as hell. Please don't ruin a perfectly fine 1911 by doing that. That's like buying a mint 1969 Camaro and putting neon lights, a spoiler, and a body kit on it :(
 
Honestly?

I think it looks absolutely terrible.
I would rather spend all the money put into the engraving to purchase cases of .45 ammo, something that is useful. The way that gun is, the only thing it is good for is a paper weight -- i.e., something to just sit and look at. It might as well just be sitting in a glass case inside a museum.

I was just looking at it and wondering if there were some spaces where they could do a lot more really fine engraving! The plain screws ruin the whole thing.

Hey, if you like it, what's the difference what others think? :uhoh: Like they say, different strokes for different folks.

I'd be afraid to shoot them, for fear of messin' em up. A little curl here and there, yea but DAMN.
 
I'd be afraid to shoot them because the gun might become self aware, realize what somebody had done to it, and end up shooting me in the face in retaliation
 
Now post #10...I love that one. The grips are spectacular!

Now I want a 38 super...I've got to run out and stock up on ammo, so hopefully they won't have any available for lay away :/
 
i think they are nice too. i mean i have guns for carry and guns for the range, but this guy would strictly be a show gun "bbq gun". it seems like all the renaissance guns ive seen like hi powers and things like that are worth alot with the full coverage engraving on them. idk. im too broke to do it anyway. just dreaming and thought id see what my fellow gun enthusiasts thought. oh and post 10- that looks fu*&^%g sweet to me man. i like how its got here name in the slide. jmo.
 
i love that one sharpdressedman, thats a very nice looking gun. i bet it looks great with plain ivory on it also. thanks for the pics.-bggs
 
Not really my style. I do think the 38 super looks a lot better than the first gun, which is a little busy for my tastes. The thing is that what's cool or good looking is totally a matter of opinion so if you like it go for it.

Personally never saw an engraved pistol I like.




I am more of a plain jane kind of guy. Sometimes a little engraving on a rifle/shotgun is nice.

Dang Sharps. I would nevr shoot that pistol. I could never get passed looking at the grips.

Y'all look at this months Americian Rifleman. It has a wonderfully engraved 1911 on the cover.
 
Mine started out as a used, stock 1971 series 70 Colt, then I slowly had it modified (grip safety, ambi safety, commander hammer, etc). Accurate Plating did the sights, trigger job, jewelling, and barrel fitting. Then it got sent to a friend (J.R. French, Irving TX) who engraved it and had it blued. A slow progression, but it started as a shooting pistol, and it still gets carried on special occasions, and works its way in to the yearly lineup to the range.
