I'm traveling to NJ next week, staying in a hotel, and I'd like to bring my revolver to keep loaded in the hotel. Other than traveling with the handgun in the trunk, unloaded, and ammo in another part of the vehicle, what legal issues should I be aware of?

:banghead:IMO just avoid spending any money or time in NJ. I am going to write the Governer, and the State Dept of Tourism and tell them I'm not ever coming to NJ!:fire:

No big deal. We really don't want you coming here anyway, to be honest.

My Home Base is directly related to the acceptance of firearm ownership!

If/When That changes ..... so will my address!

And I do not make plans that involve travel in states that do not share my present states views on firearm ownership.

I think it is menacing to US Citizens that there is not a SINGLE law concerning legal firearms ownership and ability to carry concealed! The law should be same in ALL 50 states!

I hope one day there will be a leader of this country that puts that in stone!, but we will probably just keep running out of states that are on the side of the legal firearm owner.

Unless the hotel you are staying at is your place of business, a shooting range, or your residence, you cannot have it there. Sorry. You'll have to leave it at home if you want to be legal. If you want to violate the terrible NJ laws, that is up to you.

It's a business trip, or I would.

That's... kind of rude. Any particular reason for that?

That's why I asked here, lots of people who are far more informed on the laws of states aside from mine and the few around me than I am. I'm detecting a bit of harshness in that post, I didn't mean to inconvenience anyone by posting originally.

Not trying to be rude. Just saying, that you're not really hurting anyone by threatening not to come here. We really don't rely on tourism and are pretty well off to begin with.

If your sole basis for not wanting to come to our beautiful, diverse state, filled with everything from cities to beaches to sprawling farms and everything in between, is the fact that you can't be armed, then you are the one missing out, not us.

When did I say I didn't want or intend to go there?.. I... Have to.

I'm sorry, I thought you were the guy saying he would never go there.

Well, I place fairly well-known for it's crime (and yes, I'll be staying in the near-the-bridge side of Jersey, in a pretty cheap hotel), not being able to protect myself is kind of a letdown. But I don't have a lot of choice. I'm also well aware that Jersey had a pretty side. I just won't be spending the majority of the trip there.

I hope your car runs good

Because if it breaks down in certain areas you could be assalted ,killed ,robbed if the police stop to "HELP" you they will search your car and put you in jail for weapons possession with the same guys that would have killed, robbed, assaulted you had they not got there first. you are warned.

I would say that the risk factor depends on where you are staying.

In all honesty, unless you are staying in or near Camden, Trenton, Newark, or Jersey City, you don't have much to worry about. You'll be just fine.

I would be more concerned with the maid stealing the gun than of any kind of personal security measures.

I would say that bringing the gun is perfectly ok, as long as you don't have any hollow point bullets (EFMJ is ok) and it stays locked up in the car and unloaded while driving to the hotel. When you get to the hotel, it stays there until you leave.

You *can* bring a handgun into NJ to shoot. Who's to say that you don't intend to go to the range while you are here? There are a couple of good ones in NJ and PA and I can point you in the right direction if you are interested.

I am not a lawyer, but you are still concerned, you could give Evan Nappen a call. He is probably NJ's premier second amendment lawyer. (732) 389-8888.

I can't tell if this is the snide remarks of a sarcastic, unprovoked jerk or the insane ramblings of a guy who steals wifi from a train yard.

Don't bring a firearm of any type to NJ. The state law has no provisions for you to possess any firearm in the state from what you describe.

Where are you staying in NJ?

East Rutherford has about the same property crime rate as Wheeling WV but Wheeling has 3 times the violent crime rate so you have something to compare it to.

Any place else you going?

As I said before there is no provision in NJ State Law for you to have any type of firearm with you. Leave your guns at home.

Naw NJ doesnt need tourism when the state and local ogvts are raping their tax payers. NJ has some of the highest property tax rates in the country.Stone harbor and Avalon are great beach communities but its apin in the neck to park there or get a glass of wine with dinner because NJ elected officials have to get their cut.

So I prefer South or North Bethany Beach DE. Better food, and less tude from folks who work in the restaurants, mini golf courses, amusement parks etc.

Maybe we can sell NJ to the highest bidder to help offset our national debt.

Wheeling... is pretty sketchy. That's nowhere near where I live, but my band has played there. It was pretty weird.
