Send a message by buying a gun on Memorial day?

Since every firearm purchase causes bureaucrats to "instacheck" us, I think Memorial day is a great day to send a message with a purchase. Fewer people camping, less gas bought, more GUNS bought would be a nice message.

Nah,I won't be sending any political messages on Memorial Day. I'll spend it as it was intended. Commemorating the sacrifice of those fallen in defense of our country and putting flags on the graves of veterans. I'll make my statements another time.

What a raunchy thing to say. "Prostituting?" That term wasn't high road at all in this situation (in addition to being over the top). You're essentially saying that I'm insulting the memory of the fallen because I don't share your point of view. Again, very low road reaction. You could have just said "I prefer to spend memorial day only thinking about the fallen." So if I choose to use memorial day different from you, then I'm selling it for money and insulting the fallen? If I choose to use memorial day for the benefit of the LIVING, then I'm not as good as you, and worthy of being insulted (equating my belief with prostitution was an insult hso)?

Memorial Day is not a day for sending a message (not even "Thanks" to the veterans, there's another day for that, or pick any day except Memorial Day) it's a day for solemn reflection. For decorating the graves of those who fell in battle.

If you want to buy a gun because you want to buy a gun, go for it. Be thankful that you can buy one; that seems entirely appropriate to me.

Today is for all the men and women who fought for our freedoms, many of whom paid the ultimate price, their lives.

They did not "play" with guns at the range, they put themselves in harms way for our country.

It is Memorial day, not buy a gun to play with day.

God bless all of our veterans. Salute.

Send a message? What is that message supposed to be? You assume that said beaurocrats will pay enough attention to know that guns were purchased on a given day and even if they do notice, they won't have a clue what it means, regardless of the day that it is done.

Moreover, without months of preplanning to get people on board, the whole idea is just plain doomed to fail, despite being tacky as hso noted.

Yesterday went with a friend and my young, grown son to shoot in a natural setting.
We had the Garand and an Enfield "Jungle Carbine". That was a reminder of what so many people fought with.

Even though I carried the M-1 the quarter mile to 'the spot', my son was reminded by me and the friend how our troops in Italy and many Pacific Islands etc sometimes marched many, many difficult miles with very heavy gear and in much hotter, even humid weather, not including combat.

Whatever political message you think you're sending won't even be noticed by anyone in the government. Save it for another day.

Memorial Day IS for remembering those that have passed in service of our country. Please observe it accordingly.

P.S. It is sad that the majority of the people do not treat today as a more solemn occassion for the brave and dearly depart.
