Springfield XDm vs. S&W M&P w/ Apex action kit upgrade... which has a better trigger?

Anyone have any firsthand experience they could share with me? I just cannot decide between buying an XDm or getting a M&P and then doing the Apex kit on it to make the trigger awesome. The XDm boasts some awesome trigger on its website, but I dunno just how good it really is. Apparently this kit from Apex will give me a ~3lbs. trigger pull on an M&P (SWEEEEET!!!) Both the new XDm and the M&P +kit are going to cost me the same in the end. I plan on getting whichever I choose in .40 S&W.

Also, anyone have any input on possible significant difference in felt recoil between these 2 guns in .40sw? I just assumed it'd be about the same... no?

Your link doesn't work....so I can't tell if you are looking at their Duty/Carry Enhancement Kit or their Forward Set Sear And Trigger Kit

I've fired both a XDm with a competition tuned trigger and a M&P with their new kit. There wasn't much to choose between them in feel and you couldn't ask much more of a trigger. I would have taken either over a Glock, but the Apex modified M&P felt more 1911 like.

Between a stock gun and one with custom parts from as reputable a shop as Apex Tactical Specialties is a pretty easy choice. I thought the shape of the M&P's grip made the recoil of the .40 much more manageable than the XDm
 
Every Apex trigger that I have tested has been between 5-7.5lbs. Both guns need trigger jobs IMO. The XDm with a Springer Precision trigger job is far superior to the M&P Apex setup. You really use the Apex to get a more noticeable reset.
 
Apex makes a number of kits to do a number of things on the M&P. The trigger pull weight will depend on the parts and will vary from 3, 4 or 5 lbs.

With the Hard Sear and Ultimate Striker Block mine weighed in at 4 lbs. even on an RCBS hand held and 4.25 dead weight. Only thing I don't care for is the long pretravel. That too can now be changed with the proper Apex parts.

That's odd, as one of the early complaints was the the original kit resulted in trigger pulls being too light for duty use at 4-4.5lbs...that is when they included the extra carry spring to bring it up an extra pound.

Are you sure they had the full Apex Tactical kit and not just the Reset Assist?
 
I prefer the STOCK trigger to the XDm trigger even before any enhancements. The M&P has a relatively short reset and when trigger resets the trigger is right on the sear so all you have to do is apply pressure to fire the next shot. The XD line of pistols has a longer reset and when the trigger resets you have to take up the slack again to contact the sear. I find it takes much more effort to shoot the XDs well with its trigger compared to the M&Ps. My personal M&P has a heavier trigger spring from APEX as I though mine was getting a little soft with just south of 8000 rounds through it. I also just ordered the RAM from APEX for mine to give it a sharper reset. I could certainly live with it like it is though.
 
I have both guns (in 45 ACP) in bone stock condition, no Apex, etc. It's a tie in my book after I put several hundred rounds through each gun. The XDm stayed about the same while the M&P got a lot crisper. Both pull at about 6 lbs in my guns.
 
XDm is lighter, smoother, crisper. But the travel before breaking is too great. I like a trigger that breaks sooner like the Glock trigger.

If only Glock were to take the time and fix up thier trigger so it deosn't feel so cheap.....that would be perfection.
 
I have both guns. My XDm is 9mm with a stock trigger. It has about a five pound pull with very little travel. My M&P is a .40 with the apex competiton kit. It has about a 3lb pull but it has a lot of free travel. I've been shooting both in USPSA and can't realy tell much differance on a course. Shooting slow fire for accuracy the m&p is better. I plan on putting the Springer Precision kit in my XDm which is supposed to reduce pull by about 25% which would give me around a 4lb pull in it. I can say for an out of the box great gun you can't go wrong with the XDm. That mag deal springfield has going is sweet too.
 
I looked at both an XDM and an M&P and decided on the M&P 45 C


The M&P feels "right" in the hand

Also.... I try to buy American made on anything especially when the items to be compared are
similar in fit, function, and price
