"As to why - I'm not sure a lot of people are carrying them for self defense"

Soon after they were introduced I saw a demo video on downrangetv.com, and the President of the company was pushing it as an anti-carjacking gun, saying how a blast from a .410 would deter a potential criminal. At the same time I was thinking "so would 15 shots from my Glock or 6 shots from my Vaquero";)

Hey, guys, this is USFA! A company known for its fine work and craftmanship; a serious gun company. Not some shabby, easy-to-insult company like Taurus or S&W.

I guess the concept is now...legitimized! :D

more nonsense from someone who doesn't own one and has probably never shot one.

I don't own a lot of guns, but common sense tells you that there are many other guns that are better suited for self defense than a sawed off .410 shotgun pistol.

Again, there is noting wrong with owning one as a toy (hell, most of my guns are just "man toys" used to poke holes in paper ... I can get a paper punch at office depot that will make holes in paper just as easily) but the marketing of these guns as self defense guns particularly marketing aimed at the newbie gun owner market seems more like a way to separate good people from their money than actually provide a quality self defense arm.

Hell, most folk would poo-poo the idea of using a regular ole .410 shotgun for self defense, I fail to see how it gets better with a shorter barrel and even lower velocity.

As I'm reading this thread, ironically the Versus channel is running Gun Talk, and they are Quail hunting with a Judge. He hit 1 bird out of about 10.

USFA drank some funky kool-aid, their products are not cheap. I'm sure that will be the most well made 410 revolver ever, but wow I just have to scratch my head.

I guess if you don't like the various versions of .410/.45 handguns you oughtn't to buy one. I won't own any after having spent an afternoon some years back playing around with a .410/.45 derringer a friend owns. I don't see the need for all the scorn and moral outrage towards these guns or the people who own them, though. The manufacturers are making them because they will sell. Same reason it seems most every gun company is marketing a 1911 and an AR these days. There are lots of guns that "serious" (Gad, I LOVE it when that word gets used in gun threads!!!!!!!!!) gun enthusiasts obsess over that hold no interest for me. Buy what you want, go out and shoot it, and get on with your life. You have too much time on your hands if these goofy guns get you so worked up.

If you plug the other 3 chambers, can you use it for Dove?
There now it has a sporting purpose.

And there's a half a dozen, ropeskippin, sandal wearin, pot smokin, poodle trimmin, Liberals in San Francisco that say "You don't need it."

(give me a little bit I can make em want one)

brings to mind the old howdah pistols they used on tiger hunts. you could keep it on your fourwheeler as a last ditch in case Thumper gets mean

It's really tiresome and somewhat troubling when you see gunowners telling other gunowners there is no need for a firearm they have or want.

If you don't like it, don't get it and get over yourself. It doesn't matter if you think it makes no sense, has no purpose, or it's ugly.

If you want to make those decisions for other gunowners, I hear the BATFE is always looking for folks who don't understand the 2nd amendment isn't about need or purpose.

This thing at least has a little character to it although I do not like the SA setup. If I were gonna own one of these 45/410 guns it would have to be the Taurus Raging Judge.

Dammitboy, Thats what I'm sayin! too ( that is kind of fun)

I guess it's just that I may be a little sensitive to certain catch phrases or sentiments.

It is a shame in one sense, just about everything you can invent in the way of firearms has been. About all thats left is make it bigger, make it smaller, make it in a different caliber. or stainless.

All obvious old hand shooters are resistant to change, you may notice a general trend ,
in some of the posts. And like usual if a firearms company tries to do something different,
try to create a market, or expand one, times are hard for everybody after all, the only newest gossip is how stupid the latest offering is. Or if from a more mature sage, they simply fail to see the need. well, they do more than that they tell everyone they can get to hold still, they fail to see the need.

It might just be that there is a marketing trend, which is what you call it when you have no stats, but a warm fuzzy gut, that somebody else sees a need, somebody that didn't cut their teeth on a sixshooter. Some one that wants to shoot a suburban rattler, or car jacker. Not Wild Bill the sixgun wonder, but a pissed off den mother or something. Maybe thats who it's marketed at.to..at. wheres that english teacher?

Sure be sad if a potential new shooter tried to research it on here first.

I see it as a "Gateway Gun" ,one that may lead to a more serious habit later, hopefully one they cant control.

I'm not sayin ya gotta like it, but maybe 3 or 4 pages less of dogpile on it would be ok.

Just because it's a gun doesn't mean we have to embrace it regardless of all it's shortcomings either....and just because one has an opinion concerning a new firearm, doesn't mean one cannot express themselves, unless it is positive. That's what gun forums are all about...information and opinions. You need to get over yourself.

hey, for anybody who likes firearms, "just because" always was plenty legit
(yeah, I own some pretty silly stuff too)
Safe, responsible shooting is fun with any gun that doesn't come apart in your hand and in your face, and if 410 snubbies are your fun flavor, GREAT, it is.

but get real
not attempting to suggest that there are far better choices than "da Judge & family" to a newbie for SD/PD/HD or quail shooting or target practice or hunting (or Grizz defense) .. that's contrary to the exchange of information that gun forums are supposed to be about, no matter the varying opinions about caliber/load X vs Y or Z.

Just how many non-novice 45LC shooters do you think are actually serious about buying one of these things to shoot 45LC ???
It's all about smallish shotshells out of a snubbie revolver barrel, and what that can do to watermelons.
(a garden hoe will dispatch a snake with better certainty than a snubbie 410 loaded with buckshot, despite the lack of noise and cool factor)

We owe our upcoming shooters better advice than what TV commercials and Hollystupid and video games too often encourage; not to discourage shooting, but to encourage informed choices.

Fun is fun, grab a handful every time you can.

But save the self defense pitch for the sales meeting with the accountants and MBAs-R-Us word merchants, friends.
some things are, doggone it, just harder to NOT make fun of than others

but the guy in the companion thread, da' Judge for Grizz, you think we done him wrong ?
He might be mad, but I bet he doesn't send his family into Grizz country with nothin' but a Judge and a fantasy. Shame on us.

me...
I am still tempted by a Bond 45/410
probably ain't going to happen
but I bet it would be fun !
just because

Never said that, didn't imply that. I was referring to those posters who think the gun shouldn't exist because they don't see a need for it and anybody who buys one or wants one is a boob for doing so. If you've read the thread, you've seen the commentary.

The "a fool and his money" "the madness has spread" "funky koolaid" "newbie gunowner" comments are not highroad and are not opinions on the gun, but potential owners for not agreeing with them.

You know what would be a good product? If someone made a Pepperbox revolver made to fire modern ammo.

Even though there would be virtually ZER0 use for it, I'd be inclined to buy one, just cuz I have an odd fascination with the old Pepperbox.

All they need to do now is fix a bayonet to one! How about a bandolier of extra cylinders? Folding stock?

I was prepared to hop in here and agree that a .410 revolver isn't worth much and that I'd prefer to just stick to my .357.
Curiousity made me follow the link.
Useless or not, I kind of like the lines of this gun. It just freakin' looks cool! If I had the chance to shoot one I definitely would take it!
I'm not saying I would buy one, I probably wouldn't even hang on to one if it were given to me, but that doesn't mean it's not cool enough to plink at stuff with just for the hell of it... which is what most of my guns get used for most often anyhow.

And for those who automatically dismiss it (like I was about to) all I ask is that you read the page. Seems they actually have put some research into this. I still don't think it does anything better than any other gun I already own, but they've tried to address the issue of the pattern spreading too quickly at least.

Did you read the description of how to load it for self-defense? That is very strange and against all modern American doctrine.

Why are such popular?

It's the 410 option. It is seen by newbies as something you don't have to aim and hits like the hammer of Thor.

Sure in most SD, firing something at the BG makes him go away. Doesn't make it a good gun. Tom Givens reviewed the Judge in SWAT and took it apart as a legit SD gun for anyone who knows anything.

So it shoots 45 LC, much better 45 options out there.

But with the Judge you don't have to train and it kills watermelons.
