Really check prices, while I was reviewing my purchase on ammunitiontogo(love them for my mosin ammo) I saw $25 for 120 sks rounds, I'll get some of those too. After doing a bit of math though I realized my $4.84 20 pack of ammo was actually the much better buy(I get employee discount and that's why it's so cheap). My cost per bullet from Wal Mart it $0.24 a round :D but at atg after you add in shipping chargers it's $0.30 a round per 120 or $0.28 a round per 640. Just my findings for something if you get a discount at a store that sells ammo. after shipping comes into play suddenly things get much more expensive :(

I always buy in quantity off the internet. By quantity I mean 500-1000 rounds, or more at a time. Even then you have to look at overall cost. While there are instances that Cheaper Than Dirt actually has the best price going with a specific round including shipping (they charge shipping fees) ammoman.com pays shipping to your door. That can save quite a bit of money in the long haul. I only mention those two vendors because I have had more dealings with both and have yet to have had a bad experience with either. Shipping 40+ lbs of ammo is expensive any way you go.

Do you suspect that the on-line rumors since March, that ammo prices (at several distributors) would jump 15% by May induced people to clean out Ammoman's entire supply of Wolf x39 months ago?

Maybe he is holding back, waiting for competitors' prices to rise?

Haha I'd never recommend that unless your options were really slim pickings(paycheck, even smaller, is a paycheck). Just saying if you have people who work at any place that sells ammo a discount makes a big difference when ammo shopping. Never been to ammo man so I'm going to have to visit there now :)

I've always wondered why people buy 100 or 200 rounds at a time online. Unless it's a very difficult or expensive load to get, like .338 Lapua or .300 Win Mag Match ammo or .260Rem match, etc, there should be no reason to be buying in such a low quantity online if your goal is simply to save money. As already pointed out, the savings comes in the bulk. I recently bought 2 cases of 5.56 online for $598. Shipping set me back $24. If I had bought the ammo for the same price locally, sales tax would have cost me $43.50. Basically, I saved $19.50.
Shipping costs me $12/case, whereas state sales tax costs me $21.75/case.
And that's just for where I shop. There are some places where shipping is free if you get a case or more. I do most of my shopping with PalmettoStateArmory.com. However, some places tend to be more expensive as well.

ATG.com tends to have higher shipping costs. If you want a place to buy AK/SKS ammo, go to AIMSurplus.com. They sell it for around $.18/rd, or $0.17/rd if you buy it by the case. After shipping is included, their ammo is around $0.19/rd.
