Yeah, it's amazing what they fetch. For a while I was told that they were just sitting around at Colt, with nobody interested in them. Good Colt grips sure pull premium prices.

WHERE DID THOSE GRIPS COME FROM?

That's exactly, precisely what I've been looking for my 6" Anaconda for a good while now. As a matter of fact, way longer than I've even owned the Anaconda - I bought the gun FOR installing a pair of grips just like that!

The only ones I've found so far are: http://www.gungrip.com/detail_RCG17KC__9.html , which are of correct, classic target shape, but I'm not too fond of rosewood + lacquer finish.

Please, tell me, who makes those grips, what's the price, everything... they're gorgeous and I want a pair just like that for my gun.

It would also be interesting to see an Anaconda dressed with Herrett Ropers or Eagle target grips. At John Taffin's website there is (or was) a picture of an Anaconda with Bear Hug targets as I recall.

hq,

Those grips are made by Sile. They are common grips and easy to find. Problem is they are for the MK III frame. They do not fit the MK V frame properly at the back. That is why I laid the guns with the barrel facing forward...LOL...Sorry for the trick photography. I was polishing on each gun a bit and had the grips off. I had the Siles laying there and stuck them on for the pic. They fit the locater pins correctly and will screw on tight to the gun... However, they are a little over a 1/4" longer than the back part of the grip frame. Basically, they don't fit....I've yet to see anyone who makes a grip shaped like the MK III grip that looks good on a MK V. The way the rear of the MK V's frame is made, the grip ends up being smaller.

I already had my credit card ready when I opened this thread again.

Back to square one. I've thought about having a pair of custom grips made, but that'll come with a mind-numbing price tag when done properly. Another option could be to buy a pair of Mk.III (J-frame?) grips and have them modified by adding a piece of identical wood to the back, to fill in the gap. Knowing how violently .44 recoils, that may not be good idea. A machined piece of stainless steel might do it.

If I can ask you a favor, can you take a photo of the frame and one of those grip panels installed on the opposite side, please? Just so that I could figure out how much material will be needed for the frame so that it'll sit flush with the back of the grips.

I really have to do something about this. The rubber grips are horrible and factory wood grips aren't IMO that much better.

He did (or someone did) that to us with a Colt King Cobra. Had us all drooling. ;)

Yep, Walkalong, I'm guilty of doing the same thing with a KC...LOL.

hq,

Here are your pics. I know somewhere there is a guy skilled enough in woodworking to make these grips look like they were made to fit the gun He could do it either by making a filler piece to cover the backstrap and glueing it to only one grip panel. I doubt if strength would be an issue...or..He could remove material from the grips to make them fit the contour of the backstrap. He have to still make a small filler piece to fit the rounded rear of the backstrap.

Thank you very much! Great pictures, J-frame panels seem to be a closer fit to MM-frame than I originally thought. I already tried a pair of Python grips that were way off. The filler piece approach sounds good, providing that it'll be strong (= no slack) enough to withstand the recoil. The classic target grip shape is IMO perfect so there's little point in altering it by sanding the grips down to match the backstrap.

Sile may be out of business, google couldn't find much about them, other than a number of message board inquiries if Sile still exists.

You have pm. :)
