so to answer my question i turn to the knowledgable folks at THR. are there any rifles (other than the submachine gun) made in this cartridge? any bolt action/single shot/lever action/etc? if not, how hard would it be to have a gunsmith turn something like a nef 22 hornet into this caliber?

various specialty TC barrel makers offer this cambering as well.

In theory you could do a single shot on a savage platform too and I have in fact seen one bbl for sale

well seeing how cheap the surplus ammo is, i am looking for a cheap plinker mainly, not really wanting to spend the money on an ar upper, although it is not an impossibility. i am more interested in cheaper alternatives. but thanks for the information

Right on... other folks thoughts on the economical aspects can be read in this thread
http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=470718&highlight=tok+upper&page=2

as well as on the blurb on cncgunsparts website.

Personally, i find i go through a lot more ammo in the semi's than the bolts or single shots, so the loot for a TC barrel (if i had a TC) would not make sense economically at that rate of fire....i have the adapter for the FR7 because that 1916 action is a bit weak for 7.62NATO or .308Win, and at 10cents a round, it's a lot easier to buy a spam can of Tok ammo than to hand-load a bunch of underpowered rounds which i'd invariably confuse and put in a .308 semi, and wonder why the action isn't cycling properly....but that's just me!

+1 on the mcace .308 to 30 mauser (same as 7.62x25 dimensions) adapter. I have had one for my Ishy enfield for ~a year. The tok round is nothing to sneeze at out of a pistol and it only gets better (~1850 fps) out of a 25" barrel:) Wolf JHP generates almost 650lbs of energy out of my ishy...not bad for a little 85gr bullet.

If one wants cheap plinker, rossi's single shot .308 + mcace adapter might be just what the doctor ordered! Here is a 12ga/.308 matched pair for ~$250 with shipping. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=163517872

This Ishy .308 is slightly more than the rossi, http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=163082410
but if SHTF I would rather have 12 rounds of .308 in my rifle than one:)

I don't see a 7.62x51 to a 7.62x25 adapter at that link. What am I missing?

I would like to use Tok ammo in my 308 / 30-06 bolt action. Would the adapters also work in a semi-auto rifle?

It is the .30 Mauser, I have one I use in my 2A & in a auto, watch out that you don`t lose it.
