I just have to vent a bit as this one has me in a knot.
As a recap, I sent a S&W 1917 into Mahovsky's in PA to be refinished. I chose FedEx because they seemed the most reasonable of a set of unreasonable choices.
Cost as quoted at the depot: $85.83 which included a FedEx box, insurance and a direct signature required fee. I billed it to my FedEx account number.
Fast forward to yesterday, I get a special invoice from FedEx for $107.29 for this shipment. Needless to say I called them to complain about:
$11 charge for "non-account special billing". I was told I must have either used an incorrect account number or provided none. We went over it digit by digit, the numbers were correct. However, because I included a dash and a trailing 3 digits on the end, I was told the account number is wrong. I pointed out that the dash and 3 digits is included on ALL my correspondence with FedEx and it shows as such on my online account. Now I have to call BS on this: you mean to tell me a human being reading the airbill could not figure out my account number? These people are armed with computers for goodness sake, just look it up :banghead:. Finally, after much haranguing on my part, the clerk agrees to remove the charge, begrudgingly I might add.
$2.75 "residential delivery", $3.00 "DAS extended residential delivery", $12.49 "fuel surcharge". It was explained to me that the delivery address is "rural" and not in their "normal" delivery zone for an overnight shipment. At this point I'm about unglued. The depot clerk used a computer when she tariffed this shipment, I don't get why it's one dumb enough to not know the attributes of the address. All I could get out of this one is she agreed to remove the $2.75 residential delivery charge.
It just seems to me a company the size of FedEx, with all their computer systems they are so proud of, can figure out the price of a shipment and live with it. But really, I have the feeling this one crossed the desk of an anti who said "I'm gonna stick it to this guy".
