Ruger P95 is a fine 9mm for that purpose and new

about $299. Built solid and will take hot loads too. Makes an excellent truck gun.

Since you already carry a PSP, why not have it hard chromed? Or get another one that already is?

Too expensive to arm a crack-head that steals it out of your truck sooner or later.

I'd second a stainless Ruger P95.

Fuggly & big, but it will always work, and shouldn't rust shut or clog up with hairballs under the seat.

The Colt Defender has everything that you are looking for. It even looks a little less than the EMP, I would get one in a heartbeat if I had the money.

There are also a couple of compact alloy CZ's. There is the PCR which doesn't have a rail but has a decocker and there is the P01 that does have a rail and a decocker. They are double stacks, but I have a friend who carries one all the time with no problems. If interested I can direct him to this thread.

If I were you, I'd be looking at a Sig Sauer SP2022. It sounds like it would meet most all of your requirements, and they can be found new for around $350.

Sounds like a Ruger SR9C would fit your bill ok.

It's modern, it's 9mm, it's stainless, it's got a safety, and its small enough to carry. It also costs around $400-450 and comes with not only the compact mag, but also a full-size mag and grip adapter that when inserted exactly mimics the grip profile of the full-sized SR9 (just with a slightly shorter barrel).

Also Made in the USA if that matters to you.

but if its for a truck and not concealed carry id consider a glock 10mm

Given that you already have the motor skills for a single action trigger if it were me I would stay at least within the same action type. With that said there are plenty of good 1911's to choose from in your price range.

Sig C3 comes to mind as does the Colt Defender already mentioned.

I agree with RC about arming crack heads, but that's up to you.

Not all stainless is created equal, I've seen plenty of stainless slides develop rust. I'd still recommend coating the steel with Renaissance wax paying special attention to anywhere there are milling marks.

PS: Springfield does not use stainless components (hard chromed) so even with the EMP you run the risk of non-stainless parts rusting.

for a truck gun & cheap carry gun i would look at the cz 82(9x18) cz 83(.380) these are great guns for the money. usually about $200 to $225 which is nice becuse if it does get stolen somehow you are not out a lot of money. my cz 82 isn't pretty but she is a good shooter & functions perfectly. these are solid steel with a thumb safty. i liked it so much i bought a cz 75 compact & 2 full size cz 75's. the full size cz 75 would also be a nice choice if you want a 9mm.

You can rub down your pistol with a rag soaked in Mobile1 synth grease. Then rub clean with a dry rag.

Works great for me.......When I use it on checkered guns like a DW Vbob with sharp Tac Diamond VZ grips. But usually that grease wipes off prettty clean anyways. Can't do such things with plastic guns. Those just get permanently slick if I even mention grease.

A Glock in a Raven Concealment holster is the best "truck gun". But doesn't meet your listed criteria.

How about a S&W M&P with the optional safety lever?

Still I recommend keeping it covered in a Ravens Holster. My rule is: One in the pipe? Trigger is then covered by a holster of some sort.

This is a risk, but its mostly overstated. The VAST majority of vehicle break-ins occur because the owner was stupid and left something of value in plain sight.

Breaking into a car (and likely setting off an alarm) is a risk for a criminal. It's a risk they're willing to take, but they can't do it to every car in a neighborhood (or most expecially in a parking lot) before getting caught. The break into one, grab what they can, and then dash.

No good thief is going to roll the dice on that one car they picked not having anything worth stealing in it. They're going to pick sure-shots. Don't leave anything worth stealing visible, and you won't have any issues.

I've kept a gun in my car for 10 years. Never had anything stolen. As a matter of fact out of all the people I even know I only know of one who's had ANYTHING stolen from their cars, and - you guessed it - he left a bag full of merchandise sitting on the front seat, AND LEFT THE DOOR UNLOCKED.

Well, for a truck pistol, keep it locked out of sight. I know they sell armrests for many trucks for about $100 that have a built in pistol safe. Pretty cool.

For what you requested, look at the Kahr for all stainless and compact in 9mm and .40. Their biggest one has only a 4"bbl., and the smallest a 3" I think. They are very thin and have single stack mags.

There are other Sigs than the one you mentioned, look at their site. They make a bunch. There are bunch of good used ones going around too. A local store has them for $450 or so with night sights in the boxes (but pretty well worn).

Beretta has the Inox 92 and 96. Basically an all stainless 92.

There are a BUNCH of 3rd gen. Smith and Wesson pistols around, and at great prices. They don't make 'em anymore and they come in all flavors and sizes from full size .45 and 10mm to compact 9mm single and double stack. They came blued, stainless, mixed, and with aluminum frames. All kinds of safety and decocker options. Well made and accurate, I wish they still made 'em.

Kimber makes a new 9mm compact pistol that is a little different than the run of the mill stuff. Worth checking out I guess. Stainless and aluminum I think.

Para Ord? makes or made a DA/SA compact pistol that is like a 1911 but with a different trigger. I think it came or comes in different calibres. If Para Ord doesn't make it, I can't recall who did.

CZ makes a fine 9mm, the CZ75 and others like it. I don't know about the finish options though. Some consider it along with the G17 or 19 as "the" modern 9mm pistol.

Armalite has a pistol now, but I don't know much about it. They aren't really known for pistols.

Getting away from aluminum frames, you have the new FN pistols, they have this new switchable action or something, they come in stainless with plastic frames. Smith and Wesson has their pistols with manual safeties and then there are the Springfield XD's and others as well. Sig, Walther, everyone has gone over to mostly plastic on their new stuff. That and stainless, and you have a lot of options.

Now I think the Glock is the best thing for defense, but not the newest ones. They won't rust and they are ready to go. I carry one and so does my wife. Her G17 has a heavier "NY" trigger. It doesn't have the safety you want, but with a good holster it is desireable this way.

If you're planning on leaving it in a vehicle where it might get stolen, buy the most expensive gun you are willing to lose.

I second the Ruger P95. Great gun cheap and you can get one for 300 or less (especially used.)

The size goes against your specs size wise but is a durable and cheap gun.

Another option would be the M&P9c with a manual safety. They have stainless slides with a melonite finish (very rust resistant). The downside to these are they are more expensive (in the $500 dollar range for new).

A bit late, but I want to jump on the bandwagon for getting a Ruger. Not my favorite manufacturer especially when compared to HK P7s, but Ruger fits your criteria.

My DSW carries a Keltec P11, 9mm. We only gave $269 for it at the LGS. So, it's not like an expensive gun. The regular magazines hold 10 rds. And, I think you can get 12 rounders. The only thing, it's a DAO w/a 9# trigger. DSW shoots her's just fine.
It's mostly all aluminum and polymer.
It's a good Cheap Alternative to a higher Dollar gun.

A truck can be stolen. No matter how secure it is in the truck it does not have the level of protection that a gun in the house does.

Leaving anything of value in a car is just stupid. This is a well known concept. Not the same as a house, so let's not play the metaphor game.
