I know this may not be one of those amazing deals that some people seem to luck in to, I am still very pleased with a Pawn Shop score I made today. Obviously, this one was not somebody's safe queen but the frame rails don't have a mark on them or show any signs of wear and the barrel looks perfect. After a good cleaning and lubing it hand-cycles and dry fires exactly like my 3913. Same break point and trigger feel. I'm going to remove the mag disconnect right now then take it outside for 100 rounds.

I feel like I am definitely going to get my $250's worth out of this one. Should be an excellent carry gun.

Great price. $250 is in Makarov and CZ82 price vicinity. Though never my favorite compact 9mm, the 908 has no weak feature or flaws... a very solid, reliable performer. Enjoy your new pistrol.

Sweet!

I'm going to have to start frequenting pawn shops! I have always been afraid of getting stolen property.

My 3913 is one of my favorites. I carry it frequently. My dad has retired his 1911 and I let him borrow the 3913 to try. He's been carrying it for the last few weeks and I don't see me getting it back any time soon :)

I'd love to find one for $250. Its predecessor, the 3913 is one of my favorite carry guns and I usually prefer the G27. But these are so slim and light, they are a pleasure to carry. The fact that they always work goes a long way too.

$250? You stole it!!
Amen. I damn near fell out of my chair when I saw that.

Enjoy that 908. I have a soft spot in my heart for just about all 3rd-gen S&Ws. I especially love seeing a young NYPD cop with a 5946 in his/her holster.

At $250, did you use the gun to hold him up? :p

The 3913 series are one of my favorite handguns. I nearly broke down when I pushed my LadySmith across the UPS counter for the final time, but I had to have a car to drive to work, too. :banghead: The 908 only differs materially in that it has a square chamber shoulder barrel lockup, which necessitates a squared-off slide, and plastic, non-Novak sights. Otherwise, it has the same smooth action and extreme reliability. I like the two-tone appearance of this one, too.

Like everybody else said, you pretty much stole that 908.

I'm not even in the market for something like that, but I'd buy one in a heartbeat for that price.

I don't care for the grip on the 908, and I am not a fan of DA/SA guns in general.

I, however, would have sprained my wrist going for my wallet at that price. Nice job.

I guess I'm just used to the grip because it feels at home in my grip as my G23 or G19.

I like the S&W tooled logo on that holster. I'd like to have a holster like that for my model 15.

As for the grip, I don't know how to describe it, but they just feel a bit off in my hand. The most comfortable pistol grip, to me, is a hi power followed by a 1911. It's all personal preference, and I can appreciate that 908.

jbabbler, is that decocker/safety something you modified on the 3913? I didn't want an ambi on my 3913 so I swapped it, the trigger and the slide stop with a 908. I also like the contrasting black parts.

So what are the differences between the 3913 and the 908?

This gun is a "value line" version of my 3913. It is different in a few obvious ways.

No checkering on front strap.
Plastic 3 dot sights
Single sided decocker/safety lever
Less machining on slide, more squared off.
Barrel uses squared hood rather than lugs
Plastic guide rod

Thanks. That holster is actually for a Walther PPS. It fits my 3913 like it was made for it. I bought it as a"blem" because out had the wrong logo on it.

I've never understood why S&W 3rd Generation autos aren't more popular. I've owned several, but my interest have always wandered too much to hold onto more than my 4566.

I once sold my 1006 during a time of financial hardship, and that has always pained me. These days, the 10mm line commands a hefty price, so when I've found others I haven't been able to pick one up. The 9mm line has always fascinated me as well, but obviously they're easier to come by and for far less money.

The 3913 was the pistol I borrowed to qualify with when I got my first carry permit 14 years ago. I was a horrible shot with the Browning Buckmark they first handed me, but for some reason I did much better with the 3913. I probably would have failed the range qual if not for it.

Along with the guide rod being plastic, the disconnector, the drawbar plunger and magazine catch nut are plastic as well. Shouldn't be a concern but if it is you could always swap them out with minimal fitting, if any. I believe the slide stop, trigger, hammer and maybe the safety that I put on my 3913 are MIM. That's more likely due to the fact that the 908 'parts kit' I bought on Gunbroker was newer than my 3913 which wasn't MIM.

That's a great deal on a solid weapon. I have never, ever seen a two tone 908 though. What's the story on that, anyone know??

It is result of S&W "splicing" unused inventory of parts together. Sorta like .357 wheel gun with stainless frame blued barrel and cylinder. This is not unlike what Ithaca used to do with 37 pumps years ago. That is part of their charm sorta like opening lid of gourmet French chocs one is never quite sure what they're going to get.

Congrats. I got an 910 recently in a good deal (just not as good as yours).

It's a solid pistol for sure. Very reliable and I have already get some of cheap plastic parts out and swap on steel parts from 59s.
