Two revolvers on my S&W bucketlist. Models 19 and 66 in 2.5 inch.
I have been following prices and they definitely aren't coming down!!
I didn't want to buy one sight unseen (via photos) from GA or GB. So, I have been waiting patiently for a couple of years now. Two sets of eyes are better than one and my Son found this one at a LGS. It was a week before I could get in and look at it. I wasn't really concerned that it was going to be gone...with the price they had on it.
Based on The Standard Catalog description I would say this is "As New in Box" or "Excellent Plus" at the absolute minimum. Box matches and is 99.5%, wax paper is intact and tools are there and unopened. All paperwork and marketing material included and like new. You can barely see a turn line and I don't know if has been fired or not although it is questionable.

It appears that is sat around as the first indication of sale is 1981 in Indiana. SN 91KO 3XX. Anyone know what "Special Features" 370 and INS 23 means?
What is the vintage? 1975?

You know how hard it is to shoot blue stuff, but here are three pics. This thing is simply stunning.

I hope when the 66 turns up it is only a 95% because I am going to have a real hard time bring myself to shoot this.

That is really beautiful and congrats on a great find. I also have a 19-4 but with a 6" barrel. It's my favorite revolver. I can understand your hesitancy in shooting it but on the other hand you're missing out on the pleasure of shooting a masterpiece. My 66 with a 2.5" barrel is what has been described as 'transitional'. It has a recessed cylinder but it's not pinned. It's my second favorite. Good luck with your search for the 66.

I owned its twin brother for a while. I sold it because "it was too nice to carry". I kick myself to this day. I wish I still had it. the trigger was buttery smooth man go shoot that thing carry treat it to the life it deserves.
 
To Shoot or Not to Shoot

I'm debating on shooting it or not. I never thought I would do a safe queen ;) but this may become the first. It wasn't my intent when I started looking for 66s and 19s that I would find a new 30 year old snub nose K Frame. I can always use it as a BBQ gun.

I'm hoping that when I run across the 66 it will be in just "good" condition and I will have no qualms.

Until then I have plenty of shooters.

Is this the firearm you will be putting up for the forum's thanksgiving raffle, DA?

nice catch DA, and condratulations. she is a keeper for sure. i have been looking for one around here for a while. passed on a 2.5 inch 66 (he wanted too much), holding out for the 19. you are right, hard to beat the blue stuff.

This one went a hundred below the asking price, but the asking price was at the high end. I just couldn't pass up this thing being LNIB condition. I would have been kicking myself over walking away over $50 bucks. They just don't come along like this that frequently and people are on to them in a big way.

This is my first no lock revolver and what I would consider somewhat of a classic. When you see what these are going for on GB and GA I think I did all right.

i wouldnt have passed up that 19 either DA. i am willing to pay more for a 2.5 19 than i am a 66. love the blue and stock grips. the 66 i found had houge grips and looks like it was shot quite a bit. if it had the stock grips, i would maybee have tried to make a deal, but what i really want is what you have there. great job on a beautiful piece.
