Why not buy one of the older XD models?

Apparently they don't load lead bullets ... jacketed only. The M will reliably chamber lead per numerous posts. Other than that, if it fits your hand without the xdM's changeable backstraps, no reason not to get it.

I have had 2 XD .45s and an XDM .45, never had a problem with any of them, but I never tried to load lead bullets into them either. Its also worth knowing that the XD and XDM in .45 use the same mag.

I have an XD-40 that I'm wearing now, I love mine and trust my life to it.

No lead bullets in an XD? I haven't heard that one before.

I don't normally use lead in my .45s, but last week I had a bunch of 230 gr lead RN loads to shoot up and two XD45 mags that I'd just installed +3 floorplates on. The lead worked just fine. They fed perfectly.

Does anyone have a link to a description of XD/lead problems?

Didn't know the first series was polygonal barreled....

If it's not, you should be able to shoot all you want.

If it does have Polygonal, you can buy a new traditionally rifled barrel and you wont have a problem... OR you can maintain a strict cleaning regimen, and shoot the lead anyhow.

The problem is the tight seal that you get leaves more lead behind, leading to a possible overpressure explosion if left to build up.

You could also instead spend your money on the .357 sig barrel (.40 mags feed .357 just fine) or the 9mm barrel and the mags for easy caliber swaps and stick to jacketed rounds instead of worrying about lead. Unless you cast and reload?

Edit- Tired... read but spaced the .45 reqs, no idea if the barrel/caliber swaps go that far, but still, if the price is right, you'll be fine.

I don't have any experience with the XD-45 but I have read it posted that they wont feed single wad cutters. I have an XD-40 that I've had since 2007. It is accurate & reliable. I would see no reason not to buy an XD-45 unless there is something else you'd rather have.

There is only one type of cast bullet that you should avoid and that's the SWC. The XDm has a feature that allows their use that the XD soesn't have. Any round nose or truncated or round nose flat point will work fine. Missouri Bullet has a 200 gr. RNFP that is marketed at the XD and it is a great bullet. I have the XDm in .45 ACP and I shoot SWCs just fine. Other than that and the interchangeable backstraps and different barrel lengths the XD is a great pistol.

Ya, why not get the XD regular. I have one and love it. It's an xd45c. it shoots great and is a great gun.

not having the "super accuracy" of the XDm won't be a real problem for me

Oh, good.
Because the bit about "match grade barrels" is just advertising, it doesn't promise "match WINNING grade barrels."

My bad (#2 above) - I should have specified SWCs are the issue in XDs ... that's all I shoot in 45 so ... kind of forgot about other buller designs.

Ive had a XD45 for about a month and have put about 250 rounds so far thru it with no problem.I think i might be a recovering glockaholic

The XDms are just the cool new kids on the block, nothing wrong with the "old" XDs. I sold my XD40-SC, but if I decided to buy another fantastic plastic pistol it would probably be another XD and not an XDm, they're usually cheaper anyways.

I like my XD45 service, you can shoot lead just probably not lead SWC. but i don't shoot them anyway.

I just got my fourth XD. Haven't even tried lead bullets.

I have both .45's and I definitely like the XD45 over the XD(m).

I bought my first XD in 04 and liked it so much I bought another last week. They are great pistols by themselves. The XDm had some improvements, but I really don't see any reason not to buy an original mode.

The original is the HS 2000. They sold in the <$300 range. Springfield started importing them relabeled as the XD at near double the price. It seems they have done it again with the "M" models. Little significant change in the actual product with a significant price increase. A good marketing campaign creates demand. If I were buying an XD today, I wouldn't pay extra for the "M".

I have four of the regular XD45s. I don't have tiny hands so it fits perfectly. Don't need a "match" bbl. In a duty gun- it works every time with everything I feed it.

I am one who prefers the XD to the XDm series. I have an XD9 and bought an XD40, and I guess after using the 9 so long, I became used to the grip. The 45 felt too large, and the XDm felt foreign.

XDm doesn't require a trigger pull to disassemble. Simpler and safer IMO.

I just bought the xd9 package in the last month new for $399 with the holster, mag loader, mag pouch and 2 mags. Springfield is also sending me 3 more mags for free as part of a promotion. I use to have an hs2000 that was $300. The problem was the company importing them was going under and all they had was used parts for warranty work. It's better now that springfield is importing them.
