The CZ75 and Browning Hi-Power came first to mind. While not in current production, Smith & Wesson "old-school" metal-frame pistols, many of which are all stainless steel, are abundant on the used market.

You can still get a plain Jane stainless steel frame P226 from Top Gun Supply. It is not a regular catalog item but made for the California I understand.

If you can find one of the S&W 5906 guns used they are probably the best of the steel framed 9mm's

Since I bought my first CZ, an SP-01, I have not bought another brand of pistol. 5 straight CZ's. The 75 platform is sublime, not to mention reasonably priced. I prefer steel over polymer so I was a perfect match with CZ.

If you decide to look at the Walther P38, make sure it is actually a steel-framed P38, and not the alloy-framed P1, which is what is currently flooding the market quite cheaply and abundantly.

I assume the OP is wondering about guns that are currently in production. Honestly, there aren't many anymore, especially when ruling out 1911s. There the Browning Hi Power, the Kahr K-series, Sig's P-series, some CZs, Walther PPK and PPK/s, and only one or two metal-frame S&W autos... that's all that comes to mind.

EAA Witness...... They call it a clone of the CZ, but I like it more.

I'll agree with the CZ recommendation. Absolutely fantastic pistols and I'm a huge fan of their steel guns. Tanfoglio's are very nice too but the problem there is you have to deal with EAA support instead of CZ support. I've heard lots of stories about mediocre at best support from EAA. On the other hand, CZ and the CZ custom shop have been 110% in my experience. If something goes wrong with the gun down the road, I'll take CZ support any day of the week.

Did someone say 1911?

Both non-current, but two of the best steel pistols ever made. Beretta Steel 1 and Billennium.

Beretta, C-Z and about any 3 gen. S&W. Steel are my favorite guns for the range, just to dang-blasted heavy for carry. I guess I'm getting old.

I really like the 3 gen. S&W's some really fine guns and seem to be everywhere on the market right now.

Beretta doesn't make any current production guns with a steel frame..

Well, technically you can still order a Steel I model from Beretta Australia, but its close to $3500 and doubtful you can get one shipped here. I'd take a Steel I over two of anything mentioned in the thread so far without blinking..

I highly recommend the CZ. Be careful with CZ clones, I had an Armalite AR-24 and I'll never touch that brand again...

Baretta 92? How'd that get skipped? Some CZ are not steel but alloy frames (2075 BD for example).

Not a lot left for those of us who prefer blued steel.

Tanfoglio (ie-Witness) problems are over reported from the research I've done. Never had so much as a burp from mine. Fires anything I feed it. It's a .45 though, with the older square slide and not the rounded one in 10mm or .40 which is where most of the problems were reported.

I like the CZ's but I'm not real familiar with them. The safety on the Witness functions no matter which position the hammer is in. Is the CZ like that?

Just had a thought... What about a Springfield P9 (isn't that the Springfield Tanfoglio?)
Aren't they all metal?

Hoss, my cz's safety only works in the cocked position, but I can't speak for the tanfoglio designs.

Thought that's how they were but the only ones I've ever held were decocker models. Thanks!

The only 92s I've run across have alloy frames. Were they steel in the early versions?

You are correct chicharrones, the 92FS is alloy. As mentioned earlier the Beretta Steel 1 was a limited production ,all steel version.

Just my 2 cents, but when I think of steel, I lump steel and alloy together.
As there are no complete alloy guns.

Non steel guns are plastic/polymer or as I say PP's.
